Miley Cyrus Calls Out Mom Tish Cyrus for Encouraging Her to "Stay With the Wrong Guy"

When it comes to the realm of dating, perfection is a myth, especially for Tish Cyrus. Her daughter, Miley Cyrus—whom she co-parented with ex-spouse Billy Ray Cyrus—has humorously hinted that Tish might not be the go-to guru for romantic advice concerning their children's love lives. In a September 2 joint interview with New York magazine's The Cut, alongside Tish and her sisters, Brandi Cyrus, 38, and Noah Cyrus, 25, Miley disclosed, "Mom's always wanted me to stick with the wrong guy, 'cause they're hot." The former spouse of Liam Hemsworth revealed that she defied her mother's counsel and now cherishes a fulfilling relationship with someone who offers far more than just physical attraction. "I ended up with someone who holds a special place in my heart, treats me with utmost kindness, and respects me deeply," explained Miley, who has been romancing Maxx Morando since 2021. "I had to learn the hard way; Mom taught me incorrectly, and I had to navigate the right path solo."

She further elaborated, "I sought someone who respects me, yet Mom never listed that among her top priorities. Mom's criteria were more like, 'They need to be tall. My guy is smoking hot. But importantly, he respects me too.'" Nevertheless, the "Flowers" crooner and her sisters commend Tish for her "evolution" in dating advice, partly credited to her 2023 nuptials with Dominic Purcell. "She discovered someone who's both hot and respectful," Miley added. "That's the ultimate goal."

Tish's daughters haven't hesitated to dish out their own two cents to their mom. Brandi, for instance, previously confided in her mother ahead of her marriage to the 'Prison Break' star, which transpired 16 months after her divorce from Billy Ray Cyrus was finalized. During a joint appearance with Tish on Harry Jowsey's Boyfriend Material podcast on July 15, Brandi shared, "I did caution you that you were rushing into marriage a bit. It scared me. We had just exited one marriage; why rush into another?" She continued, "It freaked me out. When you rush, you might need to retreat and tackle the issues you glossed over."

As for Tish, who also has sons Trace Cyrus, 36, and Braison Cyrus, 31, with Billy Ray, she knew she could count on one daughter for unwavering support before her wedding—Miley, who was, as she admitted, "very encouraging."
