Sandra Bullock's social media debut was nothing short of enchanting. After years of steadfast refusal to join Instagram, the Miss Congeniality star seemingly created an account and took the opportunity to tease her Lost City costar Channing Tatum with one of her inaugural comments. Indeed, after a fan account shared quotes from the Magic Mike actor's 2024 GQ interview—in which he admitted to buying a year's worth of shirts to avoid doing laundry—Sandra wrote in the comments section alongside a winking emoji, "Of course you did."
But the Oscar winner didn't stop there. In fact, she left comments under multiple friends' posts. Beneath a video of her pal Jennifer Aniston doing Jason Bateman's hair, Sandra wrote, "Me next, mama? Going for a witchy look..." And the 61-year-old's upcoming sequel Practical Magic 2 may be influencing her "witchy" vibe, as she commented "we're so back" on costar Nicole Kidman's video from July of the pair sharing a hug on the film's set. Plus, Sandra hinted at her bond with Practical Magic 2 actress Joey King, writing in the comments section of her September post with a picture of them together, "My blood. Your blood. Our blood. iykyk."
But it took some time for the Gravity actress—mom to kids Louis, 16, and Laila, 12—to embrace Instagram. Last year, she slammed "fake accounts" impersonating her. "Please be aware that I do not participate in any form of social media," she told People in a statement at the time, condemning "any accounts pretending to be me or anyone associated with me."
As for why she was initially hesitant to join social media? "Oh god, I would have one glass of rosé," she told InStyle in 2018, per Business Insider, "and be spouting off like [slurs voice], 'This is not the truth!'" However, Sandra noted that she’s "not ignorant of what's happening out there." As she explained, "I look over people's shoulders, going, 'What is that little vignette of a cat on a fan? I'm just lazy.'"
And Sandra did forecast her future—now present—antics at the time. "I'm going to get on it and troll my friends," she added. "Once my kids are using it, I'll know how to navigate it. I don't want to be naïve."
