Kim Kardashian's Oscars night was anything but smooth sailing. In fact, the Kardashian starlet tumbled into a bush while heading to Vanity Fair's star-studded Oscars after-party, where her sisters Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner—accompanied by boyfriend Timothée Chalamet and mother Kris Jenner—hit the red carpet. In a behind-the-scenes TikTok posted on March 15, Kim strolled along an outdoor path surrounded by lush greenery as she mused to longtime friend Stephanie Shepherd, "I wonder if this shoe should be tighter." That statement proved to be a harbinger of things to come, as the clip then cut to Kim screaming as she tumbled backwards into a shrub. "Sorry! Sorry!" Kim apologized as passersby, including a woman carrying a pink pastry box, helped her up onto her feet. "My ankle. Let me try to walk on it."
Although the 45-year-old, who wore a golden, crystal-embellished gown by Gucci with matching eight-inch platform heels from Pleaser Shoes and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, emerged from the stumble unscathed, she did feel guilty about accidentally making contact with "that poor lady." "F**k," she lamented as she continued her walk down the path. "I grabbed the old lady's box."
But this wasn't the first time Kim struggled with her footwear at a high-profile red carpet. At the 2024 Met Gala, she wore a pair of Lucite heelless heels—also from Pleaser Shoes, a brand beloved by pole dancers for their shoes' enhanced grip—and had to take very careful steps while walking up the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art's iconic staircase. "If I had a shoe with a heel, the heel gets stuck in the metal skirt," the SKIMS founder explained in a Vogue video at the time. "To wear these, you're on your tiptoes and you're balancing the whole time, flexing your calf muscles."
However, the effort was worth it for Kim. "We really need the height on this look," she added. "So we gotta do what we gotta do."
