Selena Gomez is opening up about the dynamics of her relationship with Benny Blanco at this pivotal juncture of her life. In an exclusive cover story for Interview magazine, published on Valentine's Day and timed to coincide with the release of their upcoming joint album, titled "I Said I Love You First" — inspired by Gomez's apparent declaration to Blanco — the duo shared insights into their relationship journey, mutual support, and more.
When prompted on advice for other couples, Gomez thoughtfully replied, "I don't claim to have life all figured out. My simplistic view is that I genuinely feel valued, seen, and respected. These are the feelings I've always longed for."
Gomez's tumultuous on-and-off relationship with Justin Bieber, spanning from 2011 to 2018, inspired her poignant track "Lose You to Love Me." After years of solitude, she embarked on a romantic journey with Blanco in 2023, following a long friendship. The couple got engaged in December, solidifying their bond.
Explaining the significance of her five-year solo phase, the "Calm Down" singer revealed, "That time alone was crucial for me to appreciate someone like Ben. He finds it amusing when I say this, but a decade ago, I wasn't emotionally equipped to receive the patience and unconditional love he offers."
Blanco echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of not settling and describing Gomez as his "best friend." The producer lightheartedly joked about fearing that Gomez might wake up one day and change her mind, to which she reassuringly responded that he's "stuck" with her forever.
In November, Gomez, who also stars in "Emilia Pérez," told The Hollywood Reporter about her decision to go public with their relationship on social media. "I've never felt this secure in a relationship, and I envision a future with this person," she confessed. "Putting a bit of our relationship out there curbs people's curiosity and reduces the scrutiny."
Blanco has previously collaborated with Gomez on hits like "Kill Em with Kindness" and "Same Old Love." Alongside the announcement of their new album, set for release on March 21, they have already unveiled a song titled "Scared of Loving You."
