And just as swiftly, Kim Cattrall has broken her silence. Mere hours after Sex and the City's visionary creator, Michael Patrick King, unveiled that And Just Like That—the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved HBO series—would conclude with its ongoing third season, the actress posted an enigmatic message on Instagram on August 1st.
Accompanied by a mesmerizing sunset photograph overlooking a serene body of water, Kim penned alongside heart and kiss emojis, "It’s the end of a profoundly long week, indeed."
Yet, Kim isn't the sole Sex and the City alumni to voice her thoughts amidst the revelation of And Just Like That's curtain call. Her former co-star Sarah Jessica Parker—who reprises her iconic role alongside Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis in the revival—mused on the enduring legacy of her character.
"Carrie Bradshaw has been the rhythm of my professional heart for a quarter-century," SJP penned on Instagram. "She has been my deepest affection. Countless others have cherished her as I have, feeling frustrated, judgmental, and rooting for her all at once. The harmony of these multifaceted emotions has served as the most magnificent soundtrack and steadfast companion." She further stated, "MPK and I, recognizing once more as we have before, acknowledge this chapter's completion."
Cynthia, too, reflected on the franchise's decades-spanning journey, terming it "an unparalleled delight from inception to conclusion."
"I can scarcely believe our wild, exquisite And Just Like That journey is nearly at an end," she wrote on her Instagram page. "I will miss these daily collaborations immeasurably, yet I am consoled knowing we will forever remain intertwined in each other's lives."
Kristin, while feeling a "profound sorrow" at the series' conclusion, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the cast and crew who poured their souls into the show.
"Thank you to each and every one of you," she added in her post. "You uphold me, and I cherish this beyond measure!!!"
And Just Like That premiered in 2021, more than seventeen years after Sex and the City signed off. Among the series' four leading ladies, Kim was the sole star who chose not to return.
"It's a profound wisdom to recognize when enough is truly enough," she told Variety in a 2022 interview. "I didn't want to compromise the essence of what the show meant to me. The path forward was crystal clear."
Though Kim did revisit her role as Samantha Jones for a fleeting cameo in the second season finale, it was a one-time occurrence. As she told Today in 2023, "This is as far as I will venture."
