In a thrilling announcement on Thursday via Instagram, FIFA revealed that Shakira, Madonna, and K-pop sensation BTS will headline the inaugural World Cup final halftime show. Set to take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19th, the World Cup Final promises to attract millions of viewers worldwide, along with an anticipated audience in attendance.

The tournament, known as World Cup 2026, kicks off on June 11th in Mexico City, with matches spread across various locations in the US, Canada, and Mexico. The halftime performance, curated by Coldplay's Chris Martin, will be produced by the non-profit Global Citizen and will benefit the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.
The fund is a "landmark initiative working to raise $100 million USD to expand access to quality education and football for children around the world," as stated in the announcement by FIFA. "Throughout the tournament, $1 from every ticket sold to FIFA World Cup 2026™ matches will be donated to the Fund."
In an announcement video shared on social media, Martin was joined by beloved characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets, with a surprise appearance by BTS. FIFA president Gianni Infantino hinted at this historic moment during a World Cup event in March 2025. "This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world," Infantino said at the time.
The official rules of soccer, as outlined by the International Football Association Board, specify that halftime breaks should not exceed 15 minutes. However, it remains unclear whether this rule will be adjusted to accommodate the performance, similar to halftime shows at the Super Bowl.
Last week, FIFA announced that reggaeton superstar J Balvin would headline the World Cup's opening ceremony in Mexico City. This performance will also feature Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, Los Angeles Azules, Maná, and Tyla.
