With the glittering 50th anniversary celebration now a cherished memory, the regular ensemble of Saturday Night Live (SNL) is gearing up to resume their duties, as the show has unveiled the hosts for its opening episodes of March. The comedian, actor, and popular podcaster Shane Gillis is poised to take the helm for the March 1st episode, accompanied by the talented musical guest Tate McRae. A week hence, Lady Gaga will don the dual hats of host and musical guest on March 8th, marking her return to the iconic stage.
All three personalities share a rich history with SNL. Gillis, who hosted the show this very month a year ago, is also the star and co-creator of the Netflix series "Tires," which is set to make a comeback with its second season later this year. This fiery comedian's journey with SNL was notably turbulent, as he was swiftly hired and then fired as a cast member ahead of the show's 45th season.
Lady Gaga, who has forged a lengthy bond with SNL, has previously performed double duty during the show in November 2013 and has served as a musical guest on three occasions - in 2009, 2011, and 2016. Most recently, she was a highlighted performer at SNL's homecoming concert and was also present at Sunday's anniversary special. Gaga's latest album, "MAYHEM," is slated for release on March 7th.
Tate McRae, gearing up for the release of her own album "So Close to What," will make her second appearance on SNL. Her previous stint on the show was in November 2023. Since late January, SNL has been on a break, busy preparing for its festive weekend. The show's staff will now enjoy a well-deserved week-long vacation before returning to the office next Monday to kickstart the production of the first of two fresh episodes. Following this, they will embark on another two-week break, returning to captivate audiences once again on March 29th.
