Stefon Diggs has vehemently maintained his innocence in the face of felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges levied against him in Massachusetts. In a statement released to E! News on December 30th, his lawyer, David Meier, categorically denied the allegations. "These allegations are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated because they did not occur," Meier stated. "The timing and motivation for making these allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an unresolved financial dispute between an employee and employer." Stefon Diggs looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law.

The New England Patriots have also stood behind Stefon Diggs in the wake of these charges. In a statement to NBC Sports, the NFL team said, "The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon." The team further stated that they would continue to gather information and cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary, but would not comment further at this time out of respect for all parties involved in the ongoing legal matter.
The charges against Stefon Diggs stem from an incident that occurred on December 2nd, just one day after the Patriots defeated the New York Giants in a 33-15 game, as reported by Boston25News.com. During a virtual court appearance on December 30th, Stefon's lawyer requested that the police report be impounded and details of the incident remain sealed. He also revealed that his client had made a financial offer to the alleged victim in hopes of settling the dispute out of court, saying in court, "As we speak, they’re working to come to an agreement on that."
During the hearing, the judge agreed to consider Stefon's request to have the report sealed and to extend his arraignment date to March after the Super Bowl, according to Boston25News.com.
News of the charges against Stefon came just one day after his girlfriend, rapper Cardi B, defended their decision to spend Christmas apart. In a video shared to X on December 29th, she said, "Y'all need to calm down. Is y'all cool? Y'all been dragging me for three or four days. Y'all become and y'all been a little bit too mean. I can't change s--t, I can't go back in time. I already had a baby."
"I don't know what y'all want me to do," Cardi added. "We can only go forward now." She went on to emphasize the pressure she already feels balancing her personal and professional lives as she gears up for her upcoming tour in February. "I'm already super stressed out," she said. "I need my support system, my fans, to love me. I want you to come to my tour and enjoy yourself with me. Don't be dragging me. It's enough."
"I want good for y'all," Cardi concluded. "I want health, money, prosperity, happiness for this new year for y'all—wish me the same thing. All right, leave me alone though."
