Frank Darabont, acclaimed for his directorial endeavors in masterpieces such as "The Shawshank Redemption," "The Green Mile," and the acclaimed "The Walking Dead," among many others, has retired from the industry after a heartening call from the creators of "Stranger Things." A devoted fan of the show, he reminisces on his initial involvement: "My wife and I were ardent admirers of the series from its inception. We had watched all four seasons, thrice, four times, or perhaps even five times over."

Narrating to Variety, he shares, "The show was exquisite. One day, out of the blue, my agent called me and said, 'The agent in the office next door represents the Duffer brothers and he just wanted me to pass on their admiration for your work.'" I responded, "That's extraordinary. It's a great compliment. I'm a huge fan of theirs too." Thus, I thought, "When I'm next in L.A., I'll grab lunch with them and offer my accolades."

After their lunch encounter, Frank recalls his agent's subsequent call, informing him that the Duffer brothers desired him to helm a project. "I was also intrigued to discover their origins, for I had never heard of the Duffer brothers prior to their monumental success on Netflix. So, when I was in L.A., I had lunch with them, and about a week later, my agent called again, inviting me to direct an episode." It is worth noting that Frank directed episodes three and five of the final season of "Stranger Things."
