Adam Sandler found an ingenious way to pay a poignant tribute to his late onscreen son, Cameron Boyce, in the sequel to 'Happy Gilmore,' titled 'Happy Gilmore 2.' Boyce, who passed away peacefully in his sleep in 2019 at the tender age of 20 due to a seizure related to an underlying medical condition, as confirmed by a family spokesperson, was best adored for his roles in 'Descendants,' 'Jessie,' and 'Mrs. Fletcher.'
Disney enthusiasts swiftly noticed the heartfelt homage to Boyce in the 'Happy Gilmore' followup, with many rushing to social media to express their deeply moving reactions. Early in the film, as Sandler's character approaches a golf check-in booth, the scene transitions to two individuals seated behind the counter, engrossed in a television program. It is at this moment that viewers catch a fleeting glimpse of Boyce on the screen, seemingly from an episode of his Disney Channel series 'Jessie,' where he portrayed Luke Ross from 2011 until 2015.
One user emotionally penned on X, "Adam incorporated a subtle yet poignant tribute to Cameron Boyce (who played his son in 'Grown Ups') in 'Happy Gilmore 2.' Excuse me while I shed a tear," while another added, "It's barely 10 am, and I'm already in tears seeing Adam Sandler include a Cameron Boyce cameo in 'Happy Gilmore 2.'"
The two actors first collaborated in 2010's 'Grown Ups,' with Boyce portraying Keithie Feder, one of Sandler's character Lenny's sons. They both reprised their roles in the 2013 sequel, 'Grown Ups 2.'
Following Boyce's untimely demise, Sandler paid a heartfelt tribute to the actor, sharing on social media, "Far too young. Overwhelmingly sweet. Incredibly funny. Simply the nicest, most talented, and most decent young man around. I adored that kid. He cared deeply about his family and the world. Thank you, Cameron, for all the joy you brought into our lives. So much more was promised. Our hearts are shattered. Our thoughts are with your wonderful family, and we offer our deepest condolences."
