Director Cary Joji Fukunaga's highly anticipated film adaptation of Jo Nesbo's 2015 crime thriller, "Blood on Snow," has ignited excitement with its latest casting coup. According to an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter, Pilou Asbæk, renowned for his memorable performances in "Game of Thrones" and "Foundation," will join the indie flick's stellar ensemble. Benedict Cumberbatch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Eva Green, Emma Laird, and Ben Mendelsohn have already been announced as part of the cast.
"Blood on Snow" revolves around Olav (played by Taylor-Johnson), a hitman who unexpectedly falls in love with his target—the wife of his mob boss—after being hired to eliminate her. Filming for this gripping tale commenced earlier this year in Latvia.
While the specifics of Asbæk's character remain under wraps, his involvement promises to add another layer of intrigue to the narrative. It was previously reported that Cumberbatch stepped in to fill the shoes of Tom Hardy, who had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts, despite being set to star and produce the film.
"Joining the ranks of 'Blood on Snow' has been nothing short of extraordinary," enthuses Asbæk. "The team, cast, and crew are second to none, and I'm deeply honored to be part of a project that pulsates with emotion. I eagerly await the day audiences get to witness its magic."
Asbæk is celebrated for his portrayal of the enigmatic pirate Euron Greyjoy in HBO's "Game of Thrones." Currently, he stars in the third season of Apple TV+'s "Foundation" and is poised to appear in director-star Michael B. Jordan's upcoming Amazon MGM Studios feature, "The Thomas Crown Affair." His impressive resume also includes roles in series such as "Borgen," "The Borgias," and "The Investigation," as well as films like "Salem's Lot," "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," and "I.S.S."
At the helm of "Blood on Snow" is Fukunaga ("True Detective," "No Time to Die"), directing from a script penned by Nesbo and Ben Power. The producers include Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer for Department M, alongside Fukunaga, Nesbo, Tracey Seaward, Niclas Salomonsson, Youtchi von Lintel, and Dean Baker.
Asbæk is represented by UTA and Art Management.
