Sydney Sweeney revealed that the fate of a potential sequel to "Anyone But You" remains an open book, with the rest of the story yet to be penned. The 27-year-old actress clarified that while she doesn't currently have an answer for her eager fans, the possibility of a sequel isn't entirely off the radar.
"You'll just have to wait and see," she told Empire in an interview published on May 22. "It's not a definitive no, and it's not a resounding yes. It's more like, 'I don't have an answer I can confidently share with you right now.'"
This isn't the first time Sydney, who starred opposite Glen Powell in the 2023 romantic comedy, has dropped subtle hints about a potential sequel. "I can't actually spill all the beans," Sydney teased E! News at the Madame Web premiere in February 2024. "But Glen and I—I mean, I was chatting with him just this morning—we're discussing things. You know, the usual stuff."
Pressed further about what they had been discussing, she added with a playful smile, "You never know; you'll just have to wait and see what unfolds."
Moreover, it seems that Glen is also open to the idea of a sequel. Although he kept his comments cryptic, he left a series of enigmatic emojis—a zipped mouth, a heart, prayer hands, and sunglasses—on E! News' Instagram post featuring Sydney's interview.
Since filming wrapped, the costars have certainly stayed in close touch. Their on-screen chemistry initially sparked rumors of an off-screen romance, and after Sydney's split from her ex-fiancé Jonathan Davino earlier this year, speculation began to swirl once again—especially when she was spotted in Texas at Glen's sister's wedding. However, the duo has firmly denied these rumors, emphasizing that they are just good friends.
Glen further elaborated on their friendship during his April appearance on Jenna & Friends. "Sydney and my sister Leslie are obviously great friends," he said. "It was an incredible wedding. The Powells know how to throw a bash, so all the people who love her were there to celebrate."
When asked about the coincidence of the wedding coinciding with Sydney's breakup, Glen joked, "Timing is everything in this world, isn't it?" His mother, Cyndy Powell, confirmed that their relationship was strictly platonic, sharing, "They're definitely not together."
"We love Sydney," she told the Daily Mail days before Glen's interview, noting that Sydney brought a friend as her date to the wedding. "We've considered her just a really, really good friend. We spent a lot of time together, and we haven't seen her in a while. She's truly a friend, and we all adore her."
