"We were like, 'We can't lose this!'" she exclaimed about seeing the clip before the song's confirmation. "It's so perfect," she continued, praising the choice of "I Did Something Bad" from Taylor's Reputation album.
Sydney, who is dating Scooter Braun, the music manager who purchased Taylor's masters in 2019 before selling them in 2020, believes that Taylor's music being universally loved makes it a great choice for the film's soundtrack. "It brings every generation together," she said of Taylor's song, "which is so fun."
Amanda, 40, shared that she and her daughter Nina, 9, are big fans of Taylor's music. Sydney noted how amazing it is that the mother-daughter duo can share a common interest in Taylor's music, saying, "That's so cool that you get to share the same artist with her." Amanda explained that she is "so grateful" for that special connection and added that when it came time to hear Taylor's track in the movie, she felt as excited as if she were her daughter's age. "When it came on, we were like 'Ahhhh!' We screamed like little girls," Amanda said. "That's the excitement that Taylor Swift songs can bring."
The film's director, Paul Feig, echoed their enthusiasm, calling "I Did Something Bad" "the ultimate kind of empowerment song." He shared that they wanted to include it but had doubts about getting clearance since Taylor doesn't often clear her songs. "When it got approved we were just like, 'Oh my God,'" Paul exclaimed.
