SZA Addresses Nicki Minaj's "Strange" Comments During Online Feud

SZA is taking a snooze on the Nicki Minaj chatter, three months after the "Feeling Myself" rapper publicly attacked her appearance and questioned her career achievements. The singer is finally speaking out.

"I don't know her," SZA told GQ in an interview published on November 6. "We have no connection to each other. There's no backstory, no through-line narrative. It was just like, 'Roc Nation.' I don't know where it came from. That's not even my place to correct a narrative that I don't have anything to do with."

She added, "It was a little strange. It was very much like, 'Why?' But also, you know, 'I guess.'"

In July, SZA came under fire from Nicki, who accused her of sub-tweeting after she aired her grievances with SZA's labelmate Punch. Without naming SZA specifically, Nicki wrote on X at the time, "Go draw your freckles back on bookie." In a follow-up tweet, Nicki then made statements about SZA's career, calling into question her record-breaking accolades. "B---h put out a whole new album as a deluxe to an already existing album that was out for like a year or 2 so the original album could break records," Nicki said. "Like what in the insecure lack of morals and integrity you doing? I thought she was like a real artist? Girl bye."

Still, SZA chose not to publicly engage with Nicki, instead she insisted on making a general statement after fans warned her to beware of Nicki's Barbz. "I get bullied by millions online every day then step my ass out onna packed stadium tour where ppl show me REAL love. IN REAL LIFE," SZA wrote on X July 15. "My parents are healthy and I'm the most successful I ever been. GET SOME F--KING PERSPECTIVE n BARK AT THE WALL !!!"

As for other beef, SZA also found herself entangled in the middle of Kendrick Lamar and Drake's very public feud. Despite working with both men, the "Kill Bill" singer—who is a frequent collaborator of Kendrick's—wants nothing to do with the narrative. "It was something between two grown-ass men, so why would I insert myself between something between two grown-ass men, you know?" SZA told GQ. "And I feel like that's how everybody felt—with the exception of people who didn't feel that way." "I didn't really have any stake, per se," she added. "Obviously, I love Kendrick. I'm signed to TDE. That's my family. Obviously, I've known Drake for so long and we have a beautiful rapport. And, obviously, it's always unfortunate when the unfortunate occurs."
