Nothing could ever shatter the unbreakable bond between Taylor Swift and Zoë Kravitz—not even snakes and stones. After the *Caught Stealing* star revealed that she and her mother, Lisa Bonet, had inadvertently trapped Lisa's pet Burmese python, Orpheus, in the wall of Taylor's home while seeking refuge there during the Los Angeles wildfires in January, the Grammy winner shared the humorous tale of how she discovered the bizarre situation.
“I just want to preface this by saying—we’ve all got that one friend,” Taylor quipped during her October 8 appearance on *Late Night with Seth Meyers*. “I remember getting a call from my head of security, and he was trying to explain this whole story to me. My first question was, ‘What snake?’ I had no idea there was even a snake in the house.”
Seth Meyers chimed in, “If someone told you, ‘Oh, the snake is loose,’ and you didn’t even know a snake existed…”
Taylor nodded emphatically. “Exactly. I did *not* know there was a snake.”
The 35-year-old continued, noting that she wasn’t entirely shocked by the absurdity of the story. “I kind of just listened to this and thought, ‘Uh-huh, okay. This sounds about right,’” she said with a laugh.
Upon hearing that Zoë and Lisa had demolished a “custom vintage cupboard” and left Taylor’s bathroom floor littered with splinters while attempting to rescue their slithering companion—who had slipped into the wall—Taylor couldn’t help but frame the chaos in a glamorous light. “This is an *Annie Leibovitz* shoot,” she joked.
“This is the chicest thing I’ve ever heard in my life,” Taylor declared. “Zoë was wearing head-to-toe The Row. I was like, ‘This is a YSL ad, not a problem.’ It sounds incredible. I’m so sad I didn’t get to see it.”
Still, Taylor couldn’t resist a playful bit of psychological maneuvering with her friend, whom she’s been close to since 2016. “I know her well enough to realize, ‘She’s not going to tell me about this until it’s all fixed,’” Taylor admitted. “So I kept a little countdown on my phone, just tallying the days. I think it took exactly three weeks—the same amount of time it took to repair the cupboard.”
When Zoë finally broke the news to Taylor herself, the *Blink Twice* director recalled her frustration with Taylor’s team. “She was like, ‘I told them not to tell you!’” Taylor recounted with a grin.
“And I just said, ‘Dude, I’ve been laughing about this for three weeks,’” Taylor replied warmly.
Of course, those who’ve been following “Snakegate” closely know that no hard feelings lingered between the stars. While Zoë admitted to *E! News* in August that she hadn’t returned to Taylor’s Los Angeles home since the incident, she playfully clarified, “It’s not ’cause I wasn’t invited. It’s just because I haven’t been in L.A.”
Taylor’s latest escapade with Zoë might’ve made for a perfect photoshoot, but many of her past experiences have inspired her to put pen to paper—or, rather, lyrics to melody.
