Despite the recent release of "The Accountant 2," whispers of a potential third installment are already swirling in the air. Specifically, during a joint interview with the film's star, Ben Affleck, for the New York Times, director Gavin O'Connor expressed his enthusiasm for bringing back Anna Kendrick's character, Dana, should a third movie materialize. Kendrick had previously portrayed Christian's (portrayed by Affleck) romantic interest in the 2016 film.
When prompted about the prospects of another sequel, Affleck hinted at his desire to consult with screenwriter Bill Dubuque and O'Connor, adding that he was "merely awaiting the arrival of another exceptional script." O'Connor emphasized, "One recurring discussion we've had revolves around reincorporating Anna Kendrick. Perhaps Christian will finally attain the love he truly deserves."
Affleck then expressed his hope that Kendrick "still holds a fondness for us," to which O'Connor replied, "Actually, Ben, she and I have been exchanging texts. She's fully committed if we decide to proceed." While the romance between Christian and Dana serves as an enticing narrative thread for a future project, the second film primarily revolved around his bond with his brother Braxton (played by Jon Bernthal).
"Fans have inquired about Anna Kendrick's [absence], but she was never slated for the second movie," O'Connor recently revealed to The Hollywood Reporter. "It was always about reuniting the brothers to mend their relationship. That's the essence we sought to explore. These are two souls in search of human connection and love, something we can all empathize with. Hence, I'm captivated by the notion of delving into tales of brotherhood."
O'Connor further informed THR that the films were "always envisioned as a trilogy" and assured that "it won't be another nine-year wait for our third adventure." Currently, "The Accountant 2" is playing in theaters.
