The finale of "The Boys" is tantalizingly close, yet some avid fans are displeased with what they perceive as several "filler" episodes in the final season. Creator Eric Kripke lashed out at these critics, stating, "If you don't delve into the characters, none of the events in the last few episodes will matter. To put it politely, I'm receiving a lot of online dissatisfaction."

Kripke further explains to TV Guide, "What are you expecting? Are you expecting a massive battle scene every episode?" He directly confronts the core of the criticism, adding, "At no point during the writing process did I think, 'Oh yeah, we're making filler episodes. So who cares?' We all believed at the time that we were truly getting important character details."

He elaborates, "We have around 14 to 15 characters, and I owe it to all of them – in a world where television is about characters – to flesh them out, humanize them, and tell their stories." Kripke also defends himself and his writing team, sharing that they delivered some "crazy, big things" in Season 5.

So far, there have been no major battles, leading some viewers to question the final season. However, Kripke fires back, "But apparently, just because it's not plot-driven action, you're saying, 'Nothing happened!' I'm like, 'What do you mean, nothing happened?'"

"The craziest, most significant moves have happened. It's just not someone shooting someone else and going, pew, pew, pew. And if that's what you want, you're just watching the wrong show," he concludes.

The "The Boys" finale will hit theaters on May 19 and then be available for streaming on May 20.
