It must have weighed a good 20, 30 pounds at least. Just imagine carrying that on your collarbone and being unable to do a thing about it.”
Taking that weight into consideration, Enrique—who has been Jenna’s personal stylist since 2014—couldn’t help but sing the Beetlejuice star’s praises for her ability to stay “fully committed to the moment” and master the art of “shaking it off” to deliver a stunning look. Indeed, the 22-year-old made a bold statement when she stepped onto the event’s red carpet on September 14, striking fierce poses to showcase the top’s chunky, multi-colored jewels. She completed the custom look, which she later donned to present an award during the ceremony, with a sleek black skirt featuring a high slit and elegant heels.
The top’s density wasn’t the only detail that required careful consideration from Jenna and Enrique. With the ensemble adorned solely with large diamonds, there was a risk that it might shift in an unflattering direction. However, the actress wasn’t fazed by the prospect of a wardrobe malfunction. “She was actually like, ‘Enrique, I’m not concerned about a slip, but obviously, I want to show respect to the Academy,’” he disclosed. “But I was the one fretting about a slip, so we made sure to use proper tape and all the necessary precautions. It was our first time venturing into something this revealing.”
As for how this flamboyant outfit came to fruition? While the stylist first spotted it back in March, it wasn’t until August—the very day she attended the season two premiere of Wednesday in New York—that the look truly clicked into place. “She tried it on, and it fit like a dream,” he explained. “The thing is, you can’t really alter something like that. It’s a completely couture piece, but it fit her perfectly. It was as if it was meant to be.”
