Oh my goodness, this is every traveler's worst nightmare come to life. TikToker Brittney Dzialo and her friend found themselves aboard a flight bound for Tunis—the capital of the North African nation of Tunisia—after an airline worker misheard their request while booking a ticket to Nice, a picturesque coastal city in France pronounced "neese." The realization dawned only after Brittney struck up a conversation with a fellow passenger, who casually mentioned that they were heading to Tunis—not "to Nice."
"We're supposed to go to Nice, France," Brittney informed a flight attendant, as captured in a video she shared on September 7. "We're on the wrong flight."
However, the flight attendant informed Brittney that it was too late to disembark, as her checked luggage had already been stowed in the cargo hold. Instead, she would have to stay on the flight and sort out her travel arrangements upon arrival at their unintended destination.
"We're going to have to make a change in Tunis," Brittney told the camera, a hint of disbelief in her voice. "We're going to Africa."
Upon landing in Tunisia, more confusion ensued as Brittney and her friend attempted to clarify the mix-up with airport staff. The language barrier, coupled with the fact that "to Nice" and "Tunis" sound remarkably similar, made explaining their predicament a Herculean task.
"They're making us pay for a new flight, saying we can't board the next one tonight," she lamented in another TikTok post. "Everyone is being so rude."
According to Brittney, the back-and-forth dragged on for "hours" before a third airline worker managed to secure a flight out of Tunisia that same evening, even going so far as to ask the "captain to hold the plane" as they dashed to the gate.
On September 8, Brittney shared the joyous news that she had finally arrived at her initial intended destination for her European vacation. Sharing a photo of her friend striking a pose next to a fountain, she wrote in the caption, "NICE, FRANCE."
