Travis Kelce might have required a tactical manual for his stint on "Saturday Night Live." As a seasoned veteran with three Super Bowl titles under his belt, he's a natural on the football field, but mastering the art of hosting the iconic sketch comedy series in March 2023 required him to go above and beyond, particularly during the weekly cast read-throughs.
"That table reading, for someone who struggles with reading, was quite the pickle," Travis confessed on the July 1st episode of the "Bussin' With the Boys" podcast. "I was merely aiming to get through it without stumbling, rather than acting it out with voice and character." While the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, who is romantically involved with Taylor Swift, cherished other facets of his experience, he stressed, "The table read was by far the toughest bloody challenge."
Even so, Travis remarked that he felt "considerably more at ease" in the comedy realm compared to dramatic shows, albeit he approached the gig with utmost seriousness. "There was still that underlying notion of, 'I need to be a professional here,'" he continued, revealing his "Saturday Night Live" mindset: "I want to seize this opportunity while having a blast, but I don't want to look like a buffoon. I strive for their respect by demonstrating my dedication and serious approach."
In fact, the star of "Happy Gilmore 2" elaborated that acting is an entirely novel skill set for him, starkly different from his football life. "I'm thoroughly prepared for an NFL game," Travis shared. "In my career, I get an entire week to devise a game plan, figure out how I'll tackle an opponent, and handle various situations. When stepping into acting, I felt unprepared."
However, drawing from his sports background, the "Grotesquerie" actor admitted, "With every director I met, I'd say, 'Coach me up. I'm here to learn. If I suck, tell me straight and show me how to improve.' I'll accept all criticism. I don't give a damn."
