Travis Kelce’s Dad Ed Kelce Defends Him Against NFL Critics

Ed Kelce is stepping up to defend his son Travis Kelce, the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. In a strong-worded post on Instagram on November 23, the father of the football star challenged his son's critics, drawing on his son's on-field achievements to make his point. "If anyone questions how good Travis is playing," Ed wrote, "through week 10, he leads all tight ends in total yardage."

But Travis' accomplishments this season don't stop there. Earlier this month, he broke a Chiefs franchise record when he scored his 84th touchdown against the Denver Broncos. And in October, the 36-year-old reached another professional milestone when he landed his 100th career touchdown, including playoff games. To mark the achievement, he paid tribute to his fiancé Taylor Swift by breaking into the dance she performed in her music video for "The Fate of Ophelia."

Despite his own impressive feats, Travis has acknowledged that the Chiefs' current 5-5 record is not where he would like the team to be. "Right now, it's a different season than we've had since I can remember," the three-time Super Bowl champion told reporters during a November 21 press conference. "With that being said, every single day is a new challenge, and I love that."

The NFL star also discussed the possibility of retiring from the league at the end of the current season, following in the footsteps of his brother Jason Kelce who did so in March 2024. "Seeing my brother go through it and understanding how the league works," he said later in the press conference, "the season restarts in April, and I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity to know whether I come back or not."

Regardless of what happens, Travis expressed a desire for some control over the matter. "Whether they want me back or not, it's one of those things where I'd like to make that decision before they've got to get draft picks and free agency opens up," he continued. "So, all of that will be at the end of the season and I won't be thinking about it until then."
