Wendy Williams, despite her circumstances, managed to reunite with her father to celebrate his birthday. The former television personality, who finds herself residing in a wellness facility in New York City that she metaphorically deems a "prison," was captured arriving at Miami International Airport on February 15th, the eve of her father, Thomas Williams Sr.'s, 94th birthday.
At 60, Wendy had earlier expressed doubts about attending due to her ongoing conservatorship. However, a judicial ruling granted her a two-day reprieve to jet off to Miami and honor her father's milestone. The ex-'Wendy Williams Show' host's joy at arriving in the sunny Florida city to embrace her family was palpable; fresh photographs depict her beaming broadly as she sat aboard a motorized scooter at the Miami airport.
During a heartfelt interview with Charlamagne tha God on 'The Breakfast Club' last month, Wendy had confessed uncertainty over whether she would make it to Thomas' birthday. "My dad turns 94 next month. I don't know if I'll be able to fly to Miami to wish him a happy birthday," she had said, blaming her predicament on the "person who is holding me hostage." She had referred to her court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, noting, "I don't know if she'll let me see my dad for his birthday." Morrissey has overseen Wendy's finances and health since 2022, amidst restrictions imposed by her family on their contact with her.
An insider familiar with the matter clarified that the guardianship court wields the ultimate authority to determine Wendy's safety in traveling to Florida or anywhere outside her NYC facility, where she receives round-the-clock medical attention.
Wendy had emphasized the significance of seeing her father given his advanced age. "The thought of potentially missing my dad's birthday exhausts me. At 94, there are no guarantees for tomorrow," she had said, her mother Shirley Williams having passed away in 2020 at 85. Wendy's niece, Alex Finnie, who accompanied her during the interview, echoed her aunt's melancholy over potentially missing this significant milestone in Thomas' life. "She wants to be here for his birthday, and the manipulation involved—I'm sorry, it's just sickening," Finnie had stated.
Wendy also shared on 'The Breakfast Club' that she had recently visited Florida for her son Kevin Hunter Jr.'s graduation from Florida International University, seizing the rare opportunity to see her dad. She praised the 24-year-old, whom she shares with her ex-husband Kevin Hunter, for his achievements and reminisced fondly about their family gathering. "We had such an amazing time—seeing my dad, going out for a party—it was wonderful," she added.
Currently, Wendy is undergoing a fresh medical assessment, questioning her diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia. On February 14th, Morrissey filed a motion on Wendy's behalf, requesting a postponement of her case against A&E Television Networks to accommodate the medical evaluation.
