"Who's the Boss?" alumnus Danny Pintauro found himself in the hospital on Thanksgiving following a scooter mishap. The 48-year-old actor took to Instagram on Sunday, sharing photos and videos from his hospital bed, along with a heartfelt note detailing the events that led to his emergency surgery on the festive occasion.
"I wanted to keep you all posted," his message began. "On Thanksgiving night, disaster struck when I was involved in a scooter accident. The bike lane I was navigating was abruptly barricaded with cones, forcing me to make a split-second decision between a van and a pylon. Little did I know, those pylons packed a punch! I sustained a gnarly scrape on my arm and was convinced I'd broken it. However, by the next morning, my condition had vastly improved, so I didn't give it much thought."
But two days later, Pintauro's world turned upside down as he began experiencing severe chest pains and struggled to breathe. His husband, Wil Tabares, rushed him to MemorialCare Miller Hospital in Long Beach, California, where a battery of tests was conducted. The diagnosis was shocking: an infection in his bloodstream caused by a tear in his stomach lining.
"It was the most agonizing pain I've ever endured," he confessed. "Emergency surgery was imperative to mend the tear. Fortunately, the surgery was a success, and the pain has subsided, albeit I'm still tender and sore."
The "Cujo" actor revealed that he was still hooked up to a tube in his stomach,禁止进食或饮水长达三日。 "They always caution about this, but it's absolutely true – had I delayed any longer, it could have been fatal," Pintauro penned. "My body screamed out in distress, alerting me to the dire situation."
He humorously added, "This is my maiden voyage into emergency surgery, and I kept my composure amidst the terror. If anyone feels like sending flowers, I wouldn't say no. Just kidding! I'm hungry, achey, exhausted, and stressed."
"Light a candle for me, please? They X-rayed my arm, and it's intact! So, there's a silver lining to this cloud," Pintauro concluded his message optimistically.
Fans rallied around the actor, offering their unwavering support in the comments.
"Sending positive vibes for a swift recovery," penned one fan.
"Oh my goodness! I'm relieved you didn't dismiss the warning signs! Feel better soon!" echoed another.
A third fan prayed, "Blessings! So glad you have Wil and excellent medical care by your side. Praying for your healing!"
Pintauro played Jonathan Bower across all eight seasons of "Who's the Boss?," which aired on ABC from 1984 to 1992, alongside Tony Danza, Judith Light, Alyssa Milano, and the late Katherine Helmond. In 2015, the openly gay actor bravely revealed his HIV-positive status on Oprah Winfrey's "Where Are They Now?"
