The dress code for this year's Met Gala, "Tailored for You," is inspired by the Costume Institute's exhibition theme, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." This theme was conceived by the Institute, drawing inspiration from "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity," a groundbreaking 2009 book authored by Barnard College professor Monica L. Miller.
"I believe this exhibition marks a pivotal milestone in our endeavor to diversify our exhibitions and collections, while also addressing historical biases within our curatorial practices," head curator Andrew Bolton remarked. "It serves as a gateway to accessibility and inclusivity within the realm of fashion at the Met."
This is the first exhibition solely dedicated to menswear since 2003. Appropriately, Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, and Lewis Hamilton have been honored as co-chairs for this significant event.
