Why Jennifer Aniston Has Never Attended the Met Gala

Jennifer Aniston harbors no fascination for gracing the prestigious Met Gala. Despite having secured an esteemed invitation to the annual fashion extravaganza in the past, the beloved 'Friends' alumna unveiled the reasoning behind her decision to sit out the fashion world's grandest night. "It's simply overwhelming," Aniston conceded in a September 2 interview with Glamour. "It's the meticulous preparation, the donning of the gown – I'm more of a 'jeans, flip-flops, and tank top' gal at heart."

"Oh, I adore dressing up too," the 'Morning Show' actress elaborated, "but for me, it's a psychological battle of 'Let's primp, slip into a glamorous dress, apply makeup, perfect the hair, and then sit amidst fellow celebrities in a grand hall.' It's a celebratory, joyous affair, yet I find myself clutching with nerves."

Her apprehension doesn't end at attending events; she also shared, "Even public speaking makes me a tad anxious, particularly when words get twisted and taken out of context over time." Nowadays, Aniston finds herself scrutinizing her public demeanor akin to a "hall monitor."

However, the 56-year-old isn't the sole celebrity who harbors no fantasies about descending those iconic red steps. While Zendaya has become one of the most eagerly awaited attendees, her fiancé, Tom Holland, prefers to let her steal the spotlight. He revealed to Men's Health in January, "It's her moment, not mine. When we attend together, it's about us."

Similarly, Zayn Malik's narrative has parted ways with the gala's red carpet snapshots, having attended only once in 2016 with his then-girlfriend, Gigi Hadid. "I wouldn't attend," he told GQ in 2018. "I'd rather be at home, engaged in something productive, than donning expensive attire and posing for red carpet photos." As the former One Direction member put it succinctly, "The self-aggrandizing 'Look at me, I'm amazing' act isn't my cup of tea."

Jennifer Garner, too, has admitted that the Met's red carpet isn't her comfort zone. "I attended the Met ball just once," she revealed to Vogue in 2023. "It struck me as a bit intimidating, so I haven't returned." Nevertheless, she fondly recalls the 2007 event, emphasizing its "majestic and special" aura.
