Robin Wright believes a sequel to *The Princess Bride* would be utterly inconceivable. While she and her co-stars from the 1987 cult classic—including Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Billy Crystal, Chris Sarandon, and Christopher Guest—have frequently faced questions about revisiting Rob Reiner’s beloved film, none are eager to storm the castle once more.
“Some time after we hit the 30-year anniversary, the cast did a Zoom call,” Robin recounted in a September 18 interview with *AARP*. “A few actors mentioned, ‘We keep getting asked if we’ll do a sequel.’” With a playful grin, the 59-year-old recalled her response: “‘Well, half of us might be in wheelchairs by then!’ So, no—absolutely not. That’ll never happen.”
Despite her firm stance, Robin—mother to Dylan Frances Penn, 34, and Hopper Jack Penn, 32, with ex-husband Sean Penn—cherishes only warm memories of filming. “We laughed so hard making that movie,” she shared. “There were times we’d have to stop shooting, reset the camera, and start over because we couldn’t stop giggling.”
The camaraderie extended far beyond the set. “Normally, you show up, act, wrap, and retreat to your hotel room alone,” explained the *House of Cards* alum. “But we took over the hotel.” Robin recalled how she, several co-stars, and Christopher Guest’s wife, Jamie Lee Curtis, would gather for communal potluck dinners in the kitchen. “It was like going home with friends—playing music, sharing meals, just hanging out,” she said.
Yet, despite the joy of that experience, the *Forrest Gump* actress has zero interest in a sequel. “I think they toyed with the idea for a hot second,” she told *E! News* in 2017, before quickly adding that she and the cast were unanimously opposed. “We thought, ‘Don’t mess with perfection. Please, just don’t ruin it.’”
Director Rob Reiner echoed that sentiment, noting that screenwriter William Goldman—who also penned the original novel—had once attempted a follow-up. “He started a book called *Buttercup’s Baby* and wrote three chapters,” Reiner revealed to *CBR* in July, “but then he said, ‘Nope, this isn’t working. I’m not doing it.’”
After all, Reiner explained, *The Princess Bride* was Goldman’s “favorite thing he ever wrote.” “I’d never do anything he wouldn’t approve of,” Reiner insisted. “So, I’ll leave it alone. It has to stay untouched.”
