Why Sterling K. Brown Appeared Injured at Emmys 2025

Meet Sterling K. Brown—injured and rolling onto the Emmys stage in style. The beloved *This Is Us* alum left fans both stunned and amused when he made his grand entrance at the 2025 Emmy Awards, held at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles on September 14. Sporting a battle wound (or rather, a banged-up leg), Brown arrived with a steerable knee scooter in tow, his left leg immobilized and his spirit unbroken.

Joined by his *Paradise* co-stars Julianne Nicholson and James Marsden to present the TV directing category, Brown rolled onto the stage with a grin as wide as the red carpet itself. Hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, the evening’s festivities took on an extra layer of resilience as the 49-year-old actor refused to let his injury dampen his enthusiasm.

So, how did the Emmy winner end up in this predicament?

Earlier that week, Brown revealed in an Instagram video posted on September 9 that he’d torn his left Achilles tendon during an athletic stunt. “Ya boy just tore his Achilles tendon,” he quipped, acknowledging that recovery would be no quick sprint. Describing the moment it happened, he recalled, “I took a step, and it felt like someone stomped on the back of my heel.”

Despite doctors urging surgery, Brown postponed the procedure to attend the Emmys. “Gonna do it after the Emmys,” he vowed, “so I can motivate myself, show up, and celebrate with my *Paradise* cast and producers. We got recognized, and it’d be nice to be there.”

For an actor accustomed to staying active—whether attending events or lounging in athleisure wear, as he joked—being sidelined has been a humbling adjustment. “When you’re used to moving your body a certain way, used to being an athlete,” he reflected, “it’s one of those things that throws you off balance.”

Yet, true to form, Brown turned his injury into a moment of levity and grace, proving that even a torn tendon can’t keep a star from shining on Hollywood’s biggest night.
