Tate McRae may have just stirred up a storm in the aftermath of her breakup with The Kid LAROI. The "Greedy" singer, who parted ways with the "Blessings" rapper in July after a year of dating, dropped a new single titled "Tit For Tat" on September 26—and fans are abuzz, suspecting it's a direct nod to their split.
"The day I met you, boy, I thought it was a blessing / In the heat of the moment, I always took your side," she croons on the track. "It's a shame you're out here trying to make it messy / Wow, you're messy, damn." Tate didn't stop there, adding, "Let's go song for song, let's go back to back / Let's go tit for tat, boy, you asked for that / That's the best you got, where's the good one at? / I was never as far away as you thought."

If the lyrics weren't cryptic enough, the fiery anthem arrived just three weeks after LAROI (real name Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard) released his breakup track "A Cold Play," where he rapped about longing to fix someone. Tate seemed to throw shade at LAROI's lyrics on her own song, singing in the bridge, "Let's go song for song, let's go back to back / Fix your f**king self, kiss my a** for that."
Needless to say, fans were quick to piece together the puzzle. As one user on X (formerly Twitter) put it, "rip laroi. he ain't dead but tate mcrae just obliterated him in tit for tat."
However, LAROI has vehemently denied any lingering animosity between him and Tate. "Tate and I are on good terms," he wrote in a text message to his team, as per a screenshot he posted to X in July after being accused of throwing shade at his ex online. "And this just looks messy / whack."
The Australian rapper also clarified that he had "NOTHING to do" with the online backlash directed at Tate following their breakup. "I DO NOT co-sign this behavior whatsoever," he wrote on X, adding that he was "working to get" hateful messages about the So You Think You Can Dance alum taken down.
