There's a mysterious and eerie new cast member joining the ranks at Nevermore Academy. When **Winona Ryder** steps onto the screen in **Wednesday** season three alongside **Jenna Ortega** and the rest of the cast, it's sure to be nothing short of utterly haunting.
The details of Winona's upcoming guest star role, which had been kept under wraps, were confirmed by series director and executive producer **Tim Burton**. In a statement to E! News, he said, "I am so thrilled that Winona has joined us. She fits right into this world. And she's a dear friend. I always feel lucky to work with her."
Indeed, this won't be the first time Tim and Winona have collaborated. Not only did Winona get her breakout role in the original **Beetlejuice**, released in 1988, but the pair have also worked together on **Edward Scissorhands**, **Frankenweenie**, and 2024's **Beetlejuice Beetlejuice**, which also starred Jenna.

In fact, the idea of reuniting Jenna and Winona after their on-screen charisma in the sequel film was part of what made the **Stranger Things** actress a must-add for **Wednesday's** third season. "We loved collaborating with her on **Beetlejuice Beetlejuice**," showrunners **Alfred Gough** and **Miles Millar** told **The Hollywood Reporter**. "And we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome her to Nevermore."
After all, they noted, "When it comes to Outcasts, Winona Ryder is the GOAT. Her legendary partnership with Tim Burton has defined some of cinema's most unforgettable characters."
While season three of **Wednesday**, which also stars **Catherine Zeta-Jones**, **Luiz Guzman**, and **Emma Myers**, was confirmed after the successful release of season two in 2025, details about the next installment have remained shrouded in mystery (just where Wednesday likes them). However, Al and Miles did tease some of the frightening shenanigans the Addams family's daughter is going to get up to.
"This time, she’ll uncover more of the school’s sinister secrets—and descend even deeper into the Addams family crypt," they said in a July press release. "Or, as Wednesday would say: ‘Nothing brings a family together like a good exhumation.'"
As for how many seasons of the Netflix series fans can look forward to, Tim isn't going to speculate. "I don’t think that way," he told **The Hollywood Reporter** in a joint interview with Jenna published on July 23. "You’re talking to two of the worst people to ask that question."
Though the imaginations of Tim, Alfred, and Miles are always running rampant, and their twisted minds have already come up with some ideas for a **Wednesday** spinoff. "It’s something we’re definitely noodling," Alfred told **THR**. "There are other characters we can look at."
