On March 4, YouTuber and outdoor adventure guru Andrew Cross, affectionately known online as "Desert Drifter," was gently removed from life support, several weeks after sustaining a devastating traumatic brain injury in a car accident on January 31. Jenna, his sister, broke the heart-wrenching news of his passing on a CaringBridge site dedicated to keeping family, friends, and fans updated on the condition of this beloved social media figure.
"Dear friends," Jenna began her poignant post, "Andrew's spirit now soars free, enveloped in light and love." She went on to describe his passing as "peaceful and overflowing with love," with his parents, cherished friends, and his wife, Evelyn, by his side.
"Before initiating the process of withdrawing life support yesterday, Andrew was placed on a portable ventilator and taken for a poignant walk around the ICU," Jenna continued, her words painting a vivid picture. "The entire staff, lined up in the hallway, paid their respects in a moving tribute to him. Inside the room, friends and family read scriptures, offered prayers, and sang, creating a serene and breathtaking atmosphere both during and for over an hour after life support was discontinued."
Jenna expressed her profound gratitude for the unwavering support and prayers from their community during this difficult time. "Andrew lived life to its fullest, and his story and impact will endure," she concluded in her update. "It has been a beautiful journey to rediscover him through the countless photos and stories shared by so many. We eagerly anticipate more such memories as we celebrate a life truly well-lived."
At the time of his demise, a GoFundMe campaign established to assist the Cross family with their mounting medical expenses had reached a heartening sum of $479,491 in donations. Tara Winter, a close friend of the Colorado-based content creator, posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram the following day, extolling Cross as "one of the finest individuals I've ever encountered."
Winter's words flowed with emotion: "He was authentic, selfless, and possessed a profound love for God and everyone he met. His mere presence was enough to endear him to you."
