The fifth episode opens with Eun-su expertly popping open the car's trunk, revealing the shovels beneath a sheet. The cop, sensing the impending drama, is called away just in time, leaving the women to their freedom. They rush home, their hearts racing as they keep a close eye on the unfolding investigation. Jeong-suk is consumed with grief over her son's disappearance, and she confronts Hui-su for not showing enough concern. Jin-young, on the other hand, sides with Hui-su as she delves into Jang Kang's past and believes there's a secret family in Shanghai that Jin-young is hiding.
On top of this emotional turmoil, the company receives a report of embezzlement. Hui-su has transferred 5 billion won from Kim's company account to Jin-pyo's personal account, the very money Jang Kang withdrew. The company chooses not to file charges to preserve their reputation, and even Kim drops the matter after the company financially covers her up using her slush fund. Jin-young is relieved due to the family background check and remains apologetic towards Hui-su, believing her lies without hesitation.
The women try to move on from their ordeal. Mrs. Jo calls, and Eun-su decides to check on her. She notices that her mother never smiles in any photos and has bruises at times. Eun-su goes home with a final warning for Mr. Jo: if he ever lays a hand on Mrs. Jo again, the whole family will disown him. She then decides to throw out the closet where she and Eun-hyeok used to hide, a symbol of their past struggles. Both Mrs. Jo and Eun-hyeok see it as a sign to start anew. Eun-su takes her mom out for a day of gifts and a nice meal.
Meanwhile, Hui-su decides to buy a mini dress, exuding confidence as the saleswoman comments on her beauty despite the bruises. Eun-su accompanies her, and while they have fun, Hui-su lapses into moments of silence, reflecting on the events that have transpired.
As weeks passed by, the bruises and injuries on everyone's bodies had healed, including Hui-su's mother's. Hui-su donned the mini dress, and the daughter of the downstairs neighbor complimented her, showing a genuine curiosity about Jin-pyo but her mother simply remarked that he must be out. Hui-su yearned for a fresh start, and Eun-su secured her a job at So-baek's warehouse. Though still curious about Jang Kang, Eun-su gave in to the present. Jeong-suk attempted to reconnect with Hui-su but was surprised to find that she was absent. She bribed the security guard to keep tabs on Hui-su, making damning notes on how she smiled, wore makeup, talked a lot on the phone, and went out daily.
Trouble also found Eun-su in the form of Mr Kwon. A reporter had sparked an investigation into Kwon's domestic abuse and Kang's subsequent suicide. The police wanted Eun-su's statement, and her manager warned her to stay quiet. She fell back into her complacent pattern, but when Kwon tried to reward her for silence, she decided to stand up. She declared that she would give her real statement and stormed off.
At the warehouse, So-baek noticed some of the remaining bruises on Hui-su as she worked hard. He was curious about her story. A shaken Eun-su showed up, wanting a distraction. She took them to Kang's favorite restaurant, but unfortunately, they ran into Kwon. She hid in the washroom, but Kwon barged in, threatening her and becoming physical when she didn't cow down. So-baek arrived just in time and saved Eun-su from harm.
The trio regrouped at the warehouse, and Hui-su cried for not noticing Eun-su's troubles earlier. So-baek introduced her to Mahjong, his go-to coping mechanism when he was down or anxious. Hui-su was a natural at it, and the mood lightened for a moment before Eun-su tried to fix So-baek's broken calendar. He curtly stopped her, revealing that the date on it was his son's death anniversary. Hui-su and So-baek shared their grief over losing a child.
Kwon was swift in manipulating the mall to promote someone else instead of Eun-su. Soon, there were moments that triggered the women's guilt, and they started seeing and hearing things related to Jin-pyo. At the end of the episode, someone entered Hui-su's apartment, causing her to freak out in terror.
