The sixth episode of "As You Stood By" begins with Jang Kang's unexpected visit to Hui-su's abode. He's not the innocent family man Eun-su had thought him to be. Jang Kang has retrieved all the deleted data from Jin-pyo's phone, revealing the CCTV footage of the house and Hui-su's secluded location in the woods where she had dug Jin-pyo's grave. He demands 3 billion won within 5 days, toying with her like a game.
Hui-su is forced to comply and helps Jang Kang leave unnoticed to ensure no one finds out. Unfortunately, Jeong-suk's mole, the security guard, spots him, and Jang Kang kills him without hesitation. Hui-su is left with no choice but to pawn all her jewelry to raise funds. But it's not enough, so she decides to put her apartment and her mother's house on sale. In her state of daze, she doesn't notice her phone going dead, leaving her unable to contact Jang Kang.
Unable to reach Hui-su, Jang Kang ropes in Eun-su. The police have arrived to investigate the dead security guard, and Jeong-suk believes Hui-su is responsible, pushing Jin-young to investigate further. Jin-young spots Jang Kang on the parking lot's CCTV and deletes it, but it's not out of concern for her "brother," but rather to protect her own background check from raising any red flags. She also tears off the guard's notes on Hui-su to ensure nothing links back to their family.
Meanwhile, Eun-su promises Hui-su that she will help fix things, but she is no match for the deranged Jang Kang. He shows up at the mall and toys with her once again, increasing his ransom to 3.1 billion won as soon as he leaves. Eun-su then begs the Chairman for a referral to a "fixer."
Jang realizes that the women may take time to get the full amount, so he starts emotionally manipulating Jeong-suk by pretending to be Jin-pyo. He texts her that he's on the run and manages to get some money out of her. He then runs into Mr Wi, another Chinese worker from So-baek's warehouse, and starts splurging, getting drunk, and causing a scene.
As So-baek welcomes the Chairman and learns of Eun-su's plan to hire Mr. Hwang to retrieve a phone from Jang Kang, he is confused by the fact that Hwang's agency is known for employing killers and thugs. He instructs Hwang to keep him in the loop, and the fixer leads him to Jang Kang. So-baek finds Jin-pyo's phone on Jang and also discovers Jeong-suk's money. Mr. Wi reveals that Jang has been boasting about obtaining 3 billion from two women. So-baek reminds Jang not to cause trouble as he's an illegal stowaway, but Jang flexes his South Korean passport, implying his status as a legal resident.
Feeling playful and wanting to toy with the women further, Jang decides to visit the woods and finds Jin-pyo's grave. Hwang alerts Eun-su, who doesn't want to reveal Jin-pyo's grave to more people, so she tells him to stop tailing Jang. However, Hwang alerts So-baek, who tells him to continue following Jang. As So-baek starts putting everything together, he feels guilty for giving Eun-su the idea to kill Jin-pyo and evade suspicion by having people believe he's alive, effectively roping in Jang Kang. He wants to help and calls Hui-su, but she feigns ignorance, determined to raise the money alone.
She breaks into Jin-pyo's safe but finds it isn't enough. Jin-young spots her putting the apartment up for sale at a loss and follows her only to find her meeting Eun-su. She recognizes Eun-su as Jin-pyo's "mistress" and continues to follow her. Unfortunately, Eun-su is meeting Jang Kang and plans to lead him to Hwang to either kill him or scare him. While Jin-young is following them, she gets a call from her colleague that Hui-su was caught by the dashcam of a car in the parking lot at the same time the security guard was murdered.
Jin-young leaves to delete the dashcam footage only to get a call from Jeong-suk that Jin-pyo is back. She analyzes Jang's texts to Jeong-suk and realizes that he isn't her brother. His texts are informal and full of typos, while hers are formal and properly written even with family members. As Jang Kang realizes that Eun-su isn't taking him to the money, he crashes the car and knocks her out when she tries to stop him from leaving. He gets back on the main road and stops in front of Jin-young's car, ready for a showdown.
