As You Stood By – K-drama Episode 8 1

Eun-su's plan to catch Jin-young involves provoking her into making a false arrest. However, one of Eun-su's VIP clients happens to be an assemblywoman who exposes Jin-pyo's "embezzlement," and the commissioner demands an explanation from Jin-young. On top of that, Jeong-suk, hiding in Jin-young's apartment, stumbles upon Jang Kang, whom Jin-young has cuffed in her storage room. Jeong-suk refuses to free him, demanding answers and laughing at the Noh family's mess. Enraged, Jeong-suk bashes his head in, killing him.

She calls Jin-young for help, and the two drag Jang's body to the car. So-baek's fixer, Mr Ma, has been tailing Jin-young and catches everything. Eun-su joins him and they crash into Jin-young's car on the highway. Jang's dead body falls out, and bystanders film the entire incident. Both Jeong-suk and Jin-young are arrested.

Hui-su turns herself in out of a sense of guilt for putting Eun-su in danger, unaware of the larger events unfolding. It doesn't help that Jin-young claims she's going to kill Eun-su for sabotaging Hui-su's "suicide." When So-baek tells her that Eun-su is going after Jin-young, Hui-su fears for her friend's safety. She goes to Gyeong-gu and turns herself in, hoping that the cop can stop Jin-young from harming Eun-su. She reveals that she killed Jin-pyo, which is why Jin-young is targeting her and Eun-su.

The trial unfolded, with Eun-su and Hui-su standing together under the scrutiny of law. So-baek, their steadfast ally, enlisted the services of a prestigious legal firm to defend them against the charges. Mrs. Jo, overcome with emotion, wept as she thought of Eun-su shouldering such a heavy burden. On the other hand, Mr. Jo remained absent throughout the hearings, a silent spectator to the ordeal.

On the day of sentencing, Hui-su bravely took full responsibility for the premeditated murder, while Eun-su, realizing her complicity in the domestic abuse, believed she deserved punishment. She declared that it was never too late to right the wrongs and gave Mrs. Jo the courage to leave her husband behind.

Mrs. Jo visited Eun-su in prison, and in a heart-to-heart conversation, they uncovered a hidden truth. Jo had temporarily placed Eun-su in foster care so she could sort out her affairs and leave Mr. Jo. However, Eun-su yearned for a happy family, and Jo had agreed to stay with her husband. Jo apologized to Eun-su for abandoning her, and Eun-su apologized for her selfishness and complicity. Hui-su felt at peace, finally able to let her guard down after facing her punishment.

Eun-su was released first, and both she and So-baek were present when Hui-su's prison sentence came to an end a little later. They visited Hui-su's mother's grave and then decided to start anew. The trio moved to Vietnam, where they worked during the day in So-baek's Chinese market and spent their evenings together. Hui-su picked up painting again, looking forward to each day with anticipation. Eun-su took up surfing, approaching life with the same resilience, staying strong even when a wave threatened to crash her way.
