In the fourth episode of Better Call Saul, titled "Hit and Run," Vince Gilligan's signature style takes center stage with an intricate sequence that, at first glance, seems like random chaos. But, as always, there's a method to his madness. A couple cruises through a suburban neighborhood, only to return home and find themselves surrounded by burly men with guns and monitors that map every inch of the streets. These are part of Gustavo Fring's elaborate plan to guard against any potential attacks by Lalo. He knows Lalo is alive and will come for him, and there's a secret tunnel that leads from under his house to the couple's house, where he can evade any retaliatory attempts by the Salamancas.

Meanwhile, Kim and Saul hatch a plan to lure Howard Hamlin into a trap. Howard has a limited appointment with a psychiatrist, and while his car is parked downstairs, Jimmy, dressed and looking eerily like Howard, will use the duped keys to take it to a motel. There, he will pick up a prostitute, pay her handsomely, and take her to a strategic location—right in front of a restaurant where Kim has invited Clifford Maine to have coffee and discuss her charitable efforts. Saul then throws the prostitute out of the car and drives away. The plan goes off without a hitch, with a few improvisations thrown in for good measure. It's a win-win for both parties as Cliff is seriously considering Kim's sincere proposal, which was not part of the original plan.
The next day, Saul visits the courthouse, where the setup is eerily similar to the one we saw in season one. It's almost deceptive, making you think it's a flashback. But this time around, no one gives Saul the respect he deserves. He's treated like an outsider due to what he did with Salamanca. The court staff, lawyers, and all associated entities feel that Saul scammed the court and the judge by allowing a serial murderer like Lalo to walk free.
Despite this, clients still flock to Saul for protection, drawn by the lawyer who was able to get Lalo Salamanca to walk free. Mrs. Ngyuyen even bars Saul from using her back office due to the overwhelming crowd. Kim notices a car following her, confronts them, and they eventually leave. Here, for the first time, she meets Mike, who explains that Lalo is not dead yet and Gus is ensuring that they have eyes on all the people whom Lalo can contact. This news leaves her with a heavy burden, but she keeps it from Saul—for now.
