Episode 7 of "Beyond Goodbye" kicks off with Saeko, her damp hair dripping from the rain, engrossed in thoughts that refuse to stray from her kiss with Kazuma. Despite her efforts to distract herself with a steaming cup of coffee, her mind remains irrevocably tethered to that tender moment. Ultimately, she bolts out, her mind a whirlwind of recent events, while Kazuma, in a stark contrast of fortunes, receives a grim prognosis at the hospital. His heart, battling an insurmountable rejection, has charted a countdown – less than a year remains for him to live.
Venturing outdoors, Saeko trips and stumbles, her luck seemingly turning for the worse, until she finds herself face to face with a formidable brown bear. The beast advances, its presence both menacing and overwhelming, until a fortunate ringtone pierces the air, startling the bear into a retreat. Saeko exhales a relieved breath, her heart pounding in her chest. As she answers Hiro's call, her attention is momentarily diverted, only to be recaptured by the arrival of press hounds eager to quiz her about her bear encounter.
Unfortunately, her unplanned media debut catches Miki's eye, reviving memories of her own ties to Kazuma, unaware of the infidelity brewing beneath the surface. Kazuma, consumed by guilt, agrees to meet Miki later in the day despite his tumultuous emotions. The pair share laughter and lighthearted jokes about the bear escapade, before delving into deeper waters. They confess to having crossed paths before, reminiscing warmly about shared memories. Kazuma appears at ease, but Saeko's heart is torn. She's falling for him, yet unsure if her affection stems from him or from the echoes of Yusuke's spirit. Torn between her burgeoning feelings and her reluctance to disrupt Kazuma's family life, she decides she can't handle the complexity and seeks a different path.
Meanwhile, Kazuma, keeping his dwindling timeframe a closely guarded secret, grapples with his own demons. Miki, equally oblivious to his impending fate, continues her life's rhythm undisturbed. Kazuma finds solace in revisiting familiar hangouts, his heart longing for Saeko's presence. However, Saeko has closed the door on their relationship, resolute in her decision to move forward without him. Kengo, sensing his friend's pain, urges Kazuma to embrace life and let go of his pursuit of Saeko.
Regrettably, Kazuma finds himself unable to indulge in such a pursuit at present and reluctantly chooses to trail after Saeko, despite the circumstances. Alas, his heart, weary and worn, ultimately betrays him in his endeavor to keep pace with her as he ventures out.
