Episode 6 of "Beyond Goodbye" kicks off with Saeko dashing through the relentless downpour, desperate for shelter from the inclement weather. She eventually finds herself standing on the precise street corner where Kazuma happens to be perched, making it evident that this sequence is a poignant flashback, set before the tragic loss of Yusuke.

Beyond Goodbye – Season 1 Episode 6 1

Yusuke, unperturbed by the lack of an umbrella, strides over to Saeko, driven not by the urge to shield her from the rain but by the simple desire to keep her company. Instead of offering a conventional gesture of chivalry, he opts to lift her spirits with a whimsical dance in the rain, his movements a playful contrast to the dreary backdrop.

As Miki arrives to pick up Kazuma, a tender moment unfolds just before their paths diverge. Kazuma reaches into his possession and presents her with an umbrella and a pair of rain boots, a gesture that not only clarifies his earlier recognition of her but also marks a pivotal moment in his own journey, as he resolves to undergo the surgery after much deliberation.

Saeko still treasures the umbrella and rain boots, symbols of their fleeting yet meaningful encounter. Meanwhile, Kazuma grapples with his own physical limitations, struggling for breath as he makes his way to the station. Fate, however, has other plans, as he and Saeko are reunited once more on a journey to explore Yusuke's hometown.

Together, they wander through the locality's cherished hangouts, from the serene park and the reverent shrine to the bustling restaurant. Throughout their exploration, Miki delves into research, uncovering the details of Yusuke's fateful accident on the mountain trail. She pays her respects at the site of his passing, where she discovers Kazuma's prior presence, evidenced by the metal coffee cup that has become a recurring symbol in their story.

The duo captures a snapshot amidst the towering wind turbines, their figures framed against the sky, before dispatching the image to Kengo. Upon unfolding the message and glimpsing the photograph, Kengo lays it aside, precisely when Miki enters the scene and catches a glimpse of his phone resting on the counter. Her eyes fall upon the pair's image, sparking her darkest suspicions. It's almost impossible not to feel compassion for her, especially as Kazuma carries on blithely, disregarding Miki's sentiments.

In the meantime, Miki arrives at the station to confront Saeko. She introduces herself and earnestly begs Saeko to desist from her actions. Miki is acutely aware of the growing closeness between Saeko and Kazuma, but Saeko turns the tables, insisting that their bond is platonic. She reassures Miki that nothing romantic transpires between them (just the occasional tight hug and hand-holding, nothing significant).

Saeko then snaps at Miki, declaring her defiance and her steadfast intention to continue seeing Kazuma regardless of Miki's approval. She attempts to rationalize her actions, claiming she's torn and clinging to any shred of hope that Yusuke might still be a part of her life.

"What did I do to deserve this turmoil?" Miki wails, collapsing into tears on the platform. She laments the sorry state of affairs, and Saeko offers a heartfelt apology for her role in it.

Kazuma, grappling with his own turmoil, returns to the hospital after experiencing distressing heart symptoms. As he exits, he runs into Saeko once more on the street, her heel shattered. He promptly offers to carry her, and they walk back together, eventually settling on the couch at his place. It's there, in the intimacy of his living room, that Saeko pulls Kazuma close, and their lips meet. The scene is underscored by an inexplicably emotional, sentimental soundtrack.

Their kiss lingers, followed by a profound silence as they sit together. When the umbrella near the door tumbles over, Saeko's memory clicks into place, realizing where she had seen Kazuma before—echoing the moments that kickstarted this episode. Kazuma, too, reflects on that same period, feeling as though he's now living a dual existence.
