The episode kicks off with Harry (portrayed by Titus Welliver) and Maddie Bosch (Madison Lintz) enjoying a cozy dinner out. As they depart, Bosch, sensing that he's being tailed, swiftly dials Maurice 'Mo' Bassi (Stephen A. Chang) for assistance. However, Mo's efforts to trace the license plate yield no fruit, though he does ascertain that the trailing vehicle contains a solitary occupant. Determined, Bosch devises a plan to draw the pursuer into his office, where he secretly keeps a firearm.
Once inside his office, Bosch discovers that his unwelcome shadow is none other than Renee Ballard (Maggie Q). She's hot on his trail because he's in possession of files he pilfered from her. Renee reveals she's working on the Flower Girl case, prompting Bosch to realize that fresh evidence must have surfaced. He confesses to making copies of the files but insists the originals reside at the Hollywood Station. Renee informs him that those originals are missing, thus necessitating her access to his copies. A deal is struck: he'll show her the old evidence if she presents him with the new. She concurs but notes that she'll need authorization first.
RHD Captain Rick Seals (James Read) instructs Renee to arrange a meeting with Bosch but to accompany it with a search warrant. Meanwhile, Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers) barges into Chief Hughes's (Sophina Brown) office, leveling accusations of stepping on her toes regarding the Humberto Zorriilo (Manuel Uriza) case. Hughes finds herself at a loss for words in response.
Back at home, Bosch nurses a drink as he ponders the Flower Girl case. His reverie is interrupted by a call from Renee, arranging their intelligence exchange. The following day, Bosch receives intelligence from Honey that Seals has obtained a search warrant for both his property and person. He expresses gratitude to Honey for the timely warning.
As Renee prepared to serve the warrant, Bosch intercepted her with the news that it had been revoked. Honey, meantime, had submitted a fresh application to access the evidence in her possession, intent on tackling the case personally. Later that day, Renee arrived at Bosch's residence, bearing both the original file and its duplicate. After briefing him on the new case development, they spent hours poring over the evidence, with Bosch revealing how the dormant killings from thirteen years ago had inexplicably resumed. Upon departing, Renee surreptitiously affixed a tracker to Bosch's vehicle.
Some time hence, Renee imparted this information to Seals, who appeared more intrigued by her omission to inform Bosch about the recently discovered DNA evidence. He instructed her to keep a close eye on Bosch and ensure he refrained from any imprudent actions.
Bosch and Mo arranged a meeting with a Filipino woman they had found online. As they strategized outside her home, Renee unexpectedly arrived, asserting her involvement in the case and emphasizing the need for procedural integrity. Mo dismissed the idea of a search warrant, postulating that their target likely employed a VPN to safeguard his anonymity. Renee ordered them to stand down and departed.
At home, immersed in the Flower Girls case, Bosch was interrupted by Maddie's arrival. Hours flew by as they scrutinized the case details until Maddie noticed a recurring paramedic who had pronounced death in two instances, including the most recent. Though Maddie saw nothing suspicious in the paramedic's actions, Bosch requested a comprehensive background check from Mo.
The next day, Mo presented Bosch and his associate with a summary of their findings on Jeremy McKee (Owain Yeoman). Bosch decided they needed to monitor McKee closely and observe his behavior. He also contacted Renee to inform her of their suspect identification, arranging a meeting to share his profile of McKee with her.
During this meeting, Renee confessed about the withheld DNA evidence and how Seals had instructed her to keep it from Bosch. They formulated a plan to obtain McKee's DNA, after Bosch assured her that his associates were already keeping tabs on him.
Renee steps into a dimly lit bar, her eyes focused on McKee as Mo surreptitiously attempts to install a tracker on his vehicle. But before Mo can complete his task, Bosch receives an urgent update from Renee: McKee is making a move. In her haste, Renee misses the chance to seize the beer bottle McKee had been sipping from. Mo informs Bosch that the tracker couldn't be hardwired, meaning it relies solely on its internal battery. Frustrated by their setbacks, Bosch reaches out to Maddie, asking for a crucial favor.
Maddie and Reina Vasquez (Denise G Sanchez) spring into action when McKee blithely ignores a stop sign. He immediately recognizes them from his Hollywood days, but they deny any familiarity, cleverly pretending to detect the scent of alcohol, giving them the pretext to administer a breathalyzer test. McKee passes the test, but in the process, they obtain his DNA.
Bosch and Renee fill Honey in on the case and McKee's involvement, but she remains unconvinced that they have sufficient evidence to proceed. Bosch later conveys this news to his associates, who are equally dissatisfied. It's at this moment that Mo realizes the tracker's battery is at a precarious 23%, signaling that a hardwire connection will soon be necessary.
Later, Mo breaks into McKee's residence and discovers the stolen Flower Girl files. Shortly after, the team loses sight of McKee as the tracker's battery life expires. While Mo frantically tries to hack McKee's password, McKee is seen casing an apartment. Just as McKee prepares to break in, Mo gains access to the computer and uncovers that McKee had previously connected with a woman on a new Filipino Flower site. Armed with this address, Bosch and Renee race to the location.
Bosch and Renee burst into the apartment, timing their entrance perfectly to thwart McKee and rescue the Filipino girl. They reunite with Honey to review the case, and afterward, Bosch has a heartfelt conversation with Renee about working under Seals. She asserts that closing the case should suffice to clear her name, but he reminds her of his impending retirement in six months. Bosch commends her for her diligent work and expresses hope that they'll collaborate again. She reciprocates his praise but reveals that an old partner once warned her that the job's darkness could seep into one's soul. She believes some of that darkness has already touched Bosch.
