Episode 2 unfolds with Emily Martino's portrayal of Yvonne Kaczmarek, vividly recounting her harrowing overdose ordeal to Zoe Doe's Dalia Tun and Amelia Stylianou's Angela Combes. She reveals that this traumatic experience has inexplicably forged a psychic bond between her and cats, an assertion that is abruptly interrupted by a sudden attack on Dalia by Annie Rose Buckley's Sabine Horvat, who holds Dalia responsible for placing Luka Horvat (Luke Greco) in a coma. Left with no choice, Dalia defends herself vigorously.

Critical Incident – Season 1 Episode 2 1

Roxie Mohebbi's Senior Constable Sandra Ali makes a concerted effort to delicately broach the incident with Akshay Khanna's Senior Constable Zilficar 'Zil' Ahmed, but this conversation is swiftly overshadowed by the arrival of Heidi May's Constable Cassie Milton, who brings the news of a devastating automobile accident that has plunged the entire town into darkness and necessitated the involvement of a specialist to aid in Luka's recovery.

Returning to the group home, Dalia is taken aback to find Brittany Santariga's Alice on the night shift. However, Alice reveals that she's not working but is there to offer Dalia counsel in navigating her interactions with the police. The discomfort of another supervisor, Christian (played by CJ Bloomfield), becomes palpable as he listens to Dalia's steadfast assertion that she was unaware of Ahmed's true identity due to his civilian attire.

Ahmed's spirits seem to lift when Inspector Ivy Tsuma (Zindzi Okenyo) informs him that he will be reinstated after completing a three-day course and reviewing some pamphlets. Nonetheless, he is cautioned to take additional days off and steer clear of Luka's family. The only significant drawback to this outcome is that he will be confined to desk duty upon his return.

At school, Yvonne basks in the newfound social cachet that Dalia's situation has bestowed upon their group, while Dalia remains largely indifferent. The situation hints at impending darkness before a glimmer of hope, as a teacher (Brigid O'Sullivan) informs Dalia that the counselor wishes to see her later.

With Detective Sam Che (Danny Kim) by her side, Detective Edith Barcelos (Simone Kessell) pores over the security footage meticulously, tracing the route Ahmed and Dalia took during their harrowing chase. However, her patience quickly wears thin as she lambasts Sam for his half-hearted approach to the investigation.

Meanwhile, Ahmed seeks solace in the gym, accompanied by Senior Constable Greg Hall (Jackson Heywood), hoping to unleash his pent-up aggression through physical exertion. Greg, however, fails to share Ahmed's optimistic outlook and even suggests taking liberties with the rules to get a glimpse of the ongoing investigation. Ahmed sternly advises him against any foolish actions. Later that evening, while spending quality time with Ali and Rezana Ahmed (Esmee Blocking), Ahmed receives some footage related to the investigation. The contents, far from reassuring, plunge him into a fit of frustration, causing him to lash out at Rezana. This sudden outbreak of anger leads to a heated altercation with Kasim Ahmed (Akkshey Caplash), who happens to arrive home just in time to witness the tumultuous scene.

Despite Ahmed's efforts to distract himself with various tactics, none prove successful. It becomes evident that only Ali holds the power to divert his troubled mind.

Prior to her visit to Hayden Broadis (Jai Waetford), Edith finds herself in an awkward predicament when she is randomly stopped and frisked by him and Ty Egan (Hunter Page-Lochard). Ty later warns her that this embarrassing encounter is merely the prelude to the lengths the police will go to tarnish her reputation.

Superintendent Trevor Latt (Erik Thomson) briefly introduces Ahmed to Vic (Gerry Sont) and Tina Kaczmarek (Hester Van Der Vyver), who personally visit the station to express their gratitude for saving Yvonne's life. Before they depart, Latt urges Ahmed to drop by later for a meeting. This encounter proves to be a turning point for Ahmed when an unexpected phone call reveals that Yvonne is friends with Dalia. Furthermore, with the persuasion of Yvonne and her parents, she agrees to confess that she obtained the drugs from Hayden.

After grilling a street vendor about the pursuit's trajectory, Edith uncovered crucial information: one of Dalia's pursuers had his Taser at the ready. Meanwhile, Ahmed delved into Hayden's background and relayed his findings to Ali, who recognized Hayden from prior grievances he'd lodged against Constable Phillip Davidson, alias Challito Browne. She vowed to pay a visit to Hayden's abode, ultimately leading to his apprehension. Hayden put up a token resistance, engaging in a fleeting chase, yet remained mostly compliant, even when Probationary Constable Dallas 'Probie' Plunkett joined the fray. However, the dynamics shifted drastically upon Greg Hall's arrival, who promptly instructed Ali to conduct a strip search on them.

During this humiliating ordeal next door, Hayden's protests echoed, while Ali conducted herself with the utmost deference. Nevertheless, the situation proved excruciating for Dalia, compounded by her menstrual cycle. Matters grew even more uncomfortable when Greg inadvertently interrupted them, though he swiftly retreated. Dalia grappled internally with the embarrassment of the search, while Ahmed received news from Trevor that he was being reinstated. His enthusiasm was unmatched by Ali's reaction when he shared the news, as she was more disturbed by his omission about Hayden's connection to Dalia. Ahmed tried to reassure her that it wouldn't have altered the course of events, offering apologies that fell on deaf ears. Their spat culminated when Ali revealed that Luka would survive but had lost his legs to amputation.

Despite Dalia's absence from her scheduled meeting with school counselor Alice, the latter displayed minimal displeasure during their subsequent confrontation. Their discussion unveiled plans for a follow-up session the next day and Alice subtly hinted at taking on the role of Dalia's caseworker upon her academic completion.

Prior to revisiting the incident's details, Edith confronted Trevor, venting her frustration over the officers' lack of cooperation. She also disclosed her finding about the Taser, emphasizing that its deployment was unrecorded in the case files. Trevor justified the omission by arguing that since Ahmed hadn't drawn the Taser, the officer might have deemed it insignificant.

This time around, Edith adopts an unconventional tactic in interrogating Dalia, commencing at the conclusion and gradually tracing back. To Dalia's astonishment, Edith sides with her when Alice accuses her of labeling one of the officers as a scumbag. Edith seemingly concurs that some officers indeed deserve such a derogatory tag. Though Dalia struggles to positively identify the officer in question, it's evident that her remark does not encompass Ahmed. Nevertheless, this does little to clear Ahmed's name when Dalia asserts that he looked menacing and neglected to introduce himself as an officer.

The episode concludes with Hayden venting his frustrations to Dalia over the phone, freshly released on bail. His discontent with the arrest is palpable, and he urges both of them to take legal recourse. Dalia, however, is hesitant to stir the pot further, and the mere thought of involving Ty only complicates matters further. Their conversation culminates with Hayden vowing to shield her from any repercussions, but just as it does, it transpires that Ahmed is keeping tabs on her every move.
