Episode 3 begins with Detective Sam Che (Danny Kim) unexpectedly uncovering body cam footage that hints at Senior Constable Zilficar 'Zil' Ahmed's (Akshay Khanna) investigation being orchestrated. Earlier, Che had shown a lackadaisical attitude towards Ahmed's efforts, but this discovery piques his interest.

Critical Incident – Season 1 Episode 3 1

Ahmed, seeking an opportunity to spy on Dalia Tun (Zoe Boe) and Yvonne Kaczmarek (Emily Martino), orchestrates an outing with his brother, Kasim Ahmed (Akkshey Caplash). However, their plan backfires when they are caught red-handed. To compound the awkwardness, Ahmed leverages Kasim's status as a social worker, prompting Kasim to accuse him of orchestrating the entire trip. Meanwhile, Yvonne reveals to Dalia that it was Ahmed who had saved her life at Brad's (Jeremy Blewitt) party, but she harbors a revenge plot against him for ruining their day.

Later that day, as Ahmed arrives for his shift, Hugh Horvat (Josef Ber) bursts in, insisting on viewing the body cam footage from Luka Horvat's (Luke Greco) accident. Senior Constable Peter Emery (Oliver Acklan) and Superintendent Trevor Latt (Erik Thomson) suggest that Ahmed take an early lunch to avoid the commotion. Instead, Ahmed finds himself in the security office, witnessing Hugh's reaction to the footage, which sends him into a near panic.

Elsewhere, Dalia and Yvonne revel in their prank of rewiring Kasim's horn, albeit wishing they had targeted Ahmed's vehicle instead. Ahmed briefly ponders reaching out to the Horvats with his attorney, Kane Kerr (Sean Hall). However, Kane swiftly dissuades him and attempts to divert his attention by mentioning a meeting with Detective Sergeant Edith Barcelos (Simone Kessell).

Concurrently, Emery seeks guidance from Inspector Ivy Tsuma (Zindzi Okenyo) on how to address the earlier altercation between Dalia and Sabine Horvat (Annie Rose Buckley). The episode teems with intrigue and tension, painting a vivid picture of the complex web of relationships and motivations at play.

Kane's strategy to divert Ahmed's attention away from engaging with the Horvats takes an unexpected turn for the worse. During this pivotal meeting, Edith unveils the footage that Che had earlier uncovered. She reveals that this crucial evidence was extracted from Senior Constable Greg Hall's (played by Jackson Hywood) Taser, a device that automatically records when armed or disarmed. The situation escalates dramatically when Ahmed abruptly storms out of the interview room to confront Hugh at his media press conference, publicly casting blame on him for Luka's loss of legs. Later that evening, Senior Constable Sandra Ali (portrayed by Roxie Mohebbi) tries to offer him reassurance, but her rejection of his advances only further bruises his already fragile ego.

Trevor seeks out Edith to voice his apprehensions regarding her application for the Crime Manager position at Blacktown Station. While he doesn't oppose her taking the role, he fears that her recent vilification of Ahmed will stir up internal strife and complicate matters. Meanwhile, when Dalia is picked up from the group home following her altercation with Sabine, Christian (played by CJ Bloomfield) wisely advises her to remain silent until he contacts an attorney. Shanika Thorpe (played by Dalara Williams) proves to be every bit as capable as promised, swiftly securing Dalia's release from the station before Emery and Constable Phillip Davidson (played by Challito Browne) can even contemplate questioning her. However, she is powerless to lift the house arrest and probation imposed on Dalia.

Ahmed's workout session at the gym is cut short by the arrival of Greg, who seemingly seeks reassurance that Ahmed will stand by him. Ahmed simply responds that he followed procedure to the letter. Later, Ali becomes increasingly concerned when she witnesses Ahmed confronting Dalia, urging her to tell Edith that he had identified himself as a police officer. Dalia vehemently denies this and demonstrates a keen awareness that he should not even be speaking to her. Ahmed persists in his harassment by having Dalia subjected to searches at school and wellness checks at the group home. After one particularly disturbing night visit, Dalia reaches her breaking point and asks Hayden Broadis (played by Jai Watford) to take her to meet Ty Egan (played by Hunter Page-Lochard). It doesn't take long for her to realize that Ty is far more astute than she had initially given him credit for, and they share a surprising amount in common. He eagerly offers his assistance, and she sees a potential ally in him.

Tsuma meets with Trevor, not merely to inform him of her application for the Crime Management position, but also to make it clear that she is fully aware of his prior collaborations with Edith in various settings. Though her demeanor doesn't convey any threats, Trevor reassures her that he will step aside and leave the decision to the higher authorities.

Ali is thrown into a fit of anger when she discovers that Zahra Khan (played by Rina Mousavi) has been spreading news about Dalia's arrest. Zahra insists that she is merely defending him, as everyone ought to do. However, Ali perceives it as Zahra unfairly scapegoating a child, even going so far as to accuse Ahmed of bringing many of his own problems upon himself.

Elsewhere, it seems that Dalia has taken Ty's advice to heart, hinting to Christian that Alice (played by Brittany Santariga) makes her feel uneasy. Though she doesn't mention Alice's name specifically, it is strongly implied that she is the one Dalia is referring to.

Ahmed spends the entire day drowning his sorrows in alcohol after Ali confronts him about his harassment of Dalia, practically accusing him of making a grave mistake by following her into that train station. By the time Zahra shows up later in the evening, he is already deeply intoxicated. This leads to a passionate kiss between them, which Zahra quickly regrets and flees in shame.

The episode concludes with Dalia being arrested. When Ali is summoned for the search, Dalia suddenly attacks her, screaming inconsolably.
