Critical Incident – Season 1 Episode 4

Published: May 29 2025

Episode 4 kicks off with a cringe-worthy sequence at the communal officer's abode, as the strained dynamics between Senior Constable Zilficar 'Zil' Ahmed (Akshay Khanna) and Sandra Ali (Roxie Mohebbi) cast a palpable tension over the atmosphere. Ahmed's workplace woes don't ease up either, with his colleagues rallying around Senior Constable Greg Hall (Jackson Heywood), leaving him isolated. His refusal to Bend the truth to Professional Standards earns him no favors in the current climate.

Critical Incident – Season 1 Episode 4 1

Dalia Tun's (Zoe Boe) arrest unfolds as a tale of youthful indiscretion, stemming from a meeting with Hayden Broadis (Jai Watford) and Shanika Thorpe (Dalara Williams). The encounter boils down to Shanika's reluctance to stick her neck out for Dalia, prompting the latter to vow to stay on the straight and narrow.

Detective Sam Che (Danny Kim) and Detective Sergeant Edith Barcelos (Simone Kessell) meticulously sift through security footage from Ahmed's incident, while Superintendent Trevor Latt (Erik Thomson) orchestrates the formation of a drug strike force, aiming to restore the department's tarnished image. Inspector Ivy Tsuma (Zindzi Okenyo) eagerly steps up to lead the charge.

Hayden, having internalized Shanika's advice to the letter, informs Ty Egan (Hunter Page-Lochard) of his intent to halt dealings until his legal troubles are resolved. This announcement falls flat with both Ty and Dalia, leading to a dramatic twist: Dalia, desperate and defiant, steals Hayden's stash and, with Brad (Jeremy Blewitt) and Yvonne Kaczmarek (Emily Martino)'s aid, embarks on a clandestine selling spree.

Once more, Ahmed vents his frustration upon Rezana Ahmed (Esmee Blocking) in the midst of a lively Uno game, an act that does not sit well with his sibling, Kasim Ahmed (Akkshey Caplash), though no immediate retribution ensues. Matters escalate when Zahra Khan (Rina Mousavi) confronts him about their impromptu kiss and informs him of his poster's impending removal from the station. This prompts a heated exchange with Trevor, who bluntly advises him to direct any grievances through Human Resources channels if he so desires.

When Inspector Tsuma initiates the recruitment for the task force, Constable Phillip Davidson (Challito Browne) inadvertently reveals that Ali has amended her statement against Dalia, downplaying the severity of the attack. Ahmed, though initially reserved in his response, is visibly disturbed by this revelation, which later narrowly averts a brawl between him and Greg Hall.

Ty swiftly discerns the fallacy in Dalia's assertion that Hayden has already disposed of his stash. Intriguingly, he remains unperturbed by this discovery, not only granting her Hayden's share but also a portion of the profits. He further assures her that with but a word, he would entrust her with even greater responsibilities. This development leaves Hayden furious, particularly since she never divulged her intentions to appropriate his stash.

As Detectives Edith and Che conclude their investigation, Tsuma promptly adjourns to the conference room, where a terse exchange ensues over the position of Crime Management. Tsuma assertively claims a natural advantage for the role, grounded in his local upbringing and intimate familiarity with the community. Edith perceives this as an insult and steadfastly refuses to relinquish her claim.

After Dalia completes her check-in at the police station, she heads back to Ty at the bakery, where she presents her proposal to keep selling for Hayden until his court case concludes. Ty's suspicions arise instantly, prompting him to inquire if Hayden is in agreement with this arrangement. Dalia assures him she can manage Hayden's affairs adeptly. However, Ty insists that if she wants to earn substantial money, she'll have to start dealing in cocaine. Despite her apparent lack of interest, Ty doesn't seem inclined to offer her any other choice. He further sweetens the deal by offering to front her the product and assist her with packaging it, before inviting her to a meeting with his supplier the next evening. Dalia remains noncommittal.

Elsewhere, Tsuma and Detective Graham McKeowan (Richard Sydenham) hold a brief meeting with task force officers, outlining their specific duties. Concurrently, Hayden pays Dalia an unexpectedly tense visit at the group home. Their silent exchange hints at a tentative reconciliation by the scene's end.

The following day, Dalia and her friends find themselves approached and searched by Senior Constable Peter Emery (Oliver Acklan) and Probationary Constable Dallas 'Probie' Plunkett (Nicholas Burton). However, the officers leave empty-handed.

Dalia's fortunes take a turn for the better when her lawyer informs her that Ali has dropped the assault charge and her mandatory check-ins are being reduced. Meanwhile, Ali is encouraged that she might make a fine detective if she's willing to put in the effort. Elated by the positive news, Dalia decides to celebrate, leading her and Hayden to join Ty and Theo Leon (Richard Brancatisano) for drinks. The gathering swiftly turns uncomfortable when Ty deliberately reveals that Dalia has escalated to selling cocaine. This revelation sparks an argument, culminating in Hayden striking Dalia. Ty steps in, forcing Hayden to apologize.

Ahmed is taken aback during his meeting with Trevor, Edith, and Inspector Evan Carr (Andrew Cutcliffe) to learn that he's being let off with a mere reprimand. After undergoing a refresher course on disengagement, he'll be reinstated to active duty. Trevor insists they made the right decision, while Edith clearly disagrees. Matters take a darker turn for Ahmed when he discovers not only has Ali moved out but Senior Constable Cassie Milton (Heidi May) is apparently rekindling her relationship with her partner.

As he had pledged, Ty conducts an entire tutorial for Dalia, encompassing the intricacies of everything from ingesting cocaine to processing and packaging it. Meanwhile, Ahmed imparts the joyful news about his legal case to Kasim, who swiftly detects an underlying unease in Ahmed's demeanor. The episode concludes with a dramatic twist as Ty hands Dalia a firearm.
