Episode 2 of "Dexter: Resurrection" kicks off with a chilling scene where a serial killer hitches a ride with an unsuspecting Uber driver, Stanley. With a chain wrapped ominously around Stanley's neck, the killer forces him to keep driving, setting the tone for a harrowing ordeal. Eventually, Stanley's life is brutally extinguished, his headless body discarded in a desolate parking lot.
Meanwhile, Dexter keeps a discreet watch over Harrison from afar. He stealthily infiltrates the Empire Hotel, cleverly obtaining a keycard from one of the chambermaids and methodically ascending the floors until he reaches the grim crime scene. To his covert astonishment, Dexter observes that his son is adeptly following in his footsteps, particularly noting the absence of blood within the hotel room.
However, the investigative duo of Officers Oliva and Wallace soon arrive on the scene, casting a keen eye over the premises. Hidden in the closet, Dexter eavesdrops on their conversation and realizes that these officers are no slouches. Suspecting more to the "clean room" than meets the eye, Wallace decides to administer a luminol test to detect traces of oxygen bleach.
After the officers depart, Dexter trails the clues to the hotel kitchen, where he deduces that this is where Harrison dismembered the body. His suspicions are confirmed when he discovers a telltale spot of blood on the ceiling. Dexter swiftly acts to erase any evidence of his son's handiwork before the police can catch wind of his findings.
Elsewhere, Angel continues his relentless pursuit of Dexter. However, fate intervenes as Dexter's car is impounded, forcing him to take an Uber. Here, he encounters Blessing, a nervous passenger who soon reveals the reason for his jitteriness.
Upon learning about the current serial killer preying on rideshare drivers, Dexter's interest is piqued. This murderer has already claimed the lives of seven individuals, and to add further insult, he has been nicknamed the Dark Passenger—a moniker that deeply disturbs Dexter, prompting him to take decisive action. Blessing assists Dexter by providing him access to a gathering for drivers, where the sole survivor, Chike, will be present.
Dexter engages Chike in conversation, who reveals that he hasn't reported the incident to the police due to his expired visa. However, Chike does possess crucial information: the killer is roughly the same build and size as Dexter, and he even has dashcam footage of the encounter. Dexter cleverly transfers the footage to himself, noting that the assailant's face is obscured by a mask. Blessing, ever generous, also offers Dexter a place to stay.
Armed with a new driver's license and after ensuring Harrison is well, Dexter meticulously reviews the footage. A crucial detail emerges: the killer carries a backpack adorned with the logo of Bridge Data Network. Dexter delves into the company's employee records and zeroes in on a man named Ronald Schmidt as a potential suspect.
Elsewhere, we gain deeper insight into Charley, a former Special Ops operator now serving as the Head of Security for billionaire Leon Prater. We briefly glimpsed her in episode 1, surrounded by a case filled with IDs marked off with what seemed to be blood, but her exact role remained mysterious. Now, it becomes clear that she is tasked with tracking down dangerous individuals, as evidenced by her confrontation with Keith, a killer with whom they had previously dealt. Severing ties with Keith, Charley brutally dispatches him with a spiked baseball bat.
Back at the hotel, Wallace is on high alert. The camera blind spots and the suspiciously pristine state of the hotel room raise red flags. When they discover footage of Shauna being drugged and abducted, they decide to interview her next.
Shauna's arrival unsettlingly startles Harrison. Meanwhile, Dexter nearly catches the killer in the act of striking again but loses him in the labyrinthine subway system.
