Published: May 16 2025

As the curtain rises on this installment of "DI Ray," Supt Ross Beardsmore (played by Ian Puleston-Davies) informs Di Rachita Ray (Parminder Nagra) that Rav stands accused of all three heinous murders. Beardsmore intends to pin the blame solely on Rav unless Ray can swiftly implicate another suspect. In a private conversation, DCI Kerry Henderson (Gemma Whelan) updates Ray on the surveillance setup around Amara Dhawan's residence and vehicles. Kerry underscores the importance of solidarity amidst the Internal Officer for Professional Conduct (IOPC) investigation into the police shooting of Rav Mochani, emphasizing that someone will undoubtedly be scapegoated. They ponder Rav's actions during the incident, questioning whether he was on the brink of surrendering his weapon.

DI Ray – Season 2 Episode 5 1

Shortly thereafter, DI Patrick Holden (Patrick Baladi) seeks a debriefing session with Ray. She concurs and subsequently briefs her team on Amara's movements and interactions with Priya, believing these threads are intertwined with the murders of Frank and Megan, albeit the exact connection remains elusive. Clive Bottomley (Steve Oram) mentions Lou's disappearance since their encounter at the snooker hall. The team scrutinizes a video feed of Amara's activities while Clive searches for Frank's girlfriend. Ray, meanwhile, delves into a racist chat log and uncovers a number that leads to a dead end. Clive introduces Claire Doyle, the proprietor of a swimming academy, whom he suspects could be the woman Lou referenced. He presents Ray with a photograph of Claire from Frank's wake, and they agree to pay her a visit.

In the car en route to seeing Claire, Clive hesitantly inquires if he inadvertently offended Ray on a previous evening, to which she remains noncommittal. Upon their arrival, Claire shares that the council pool she ran was destined for closure until Frank stepped in to purchase it. Their relationship, though once intimate, ended amicably long ago. She explains that Frank, who had humble beginnings and frequently utilized the council pool, was passionate about keeping it accessible to the community. Regarding the missing photos, Claire mentions they're stored in a box somewhere. Clive asks why Frank invested in the pool, prompting Claire to reveal that it was a personal mission for him. Though she recalls Lou, she claims ignorance about his rift with Frank. Furthermore, Claire asserts her alibi, stating she was attending a competition on the night Frank was killed.

As they depart, their conversation lingers on the ornate decanter that Claire once displayed in her cabinet, igniting Ray's curiosity. She urges Clive to delve deeper, to uncover the elusive photographs that hold the key to their mystery. As they near the station, their path is met with the愤怒 shouts of protesters, their voices echoing through the air.

During her interview with the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), DI Ray receives the somber news of Rav's passing in the hospital, a moment ago. She reveals her awareness of the Firearms Unit's presence but misjudged their distance, believing them to be farther away. She and Kerry had agreed to remain passive, yet questions persist. The interviewer delves into the complaint against her, as Rachita maintains that Rav was in the act of surrendering his weapon when he was shot.

Following the interview, Hiroka McGregor (Naomi Yang), with a tone laced with resentment, informs DI Ray of a disturbing revelation: Kerry and Beardsmore aim to sacrifice her career to deflect from the controversy. An Asian man was shot by the police, and they seek to avoid a racial uproar by scapegoating an Asian officer—a form of racial discrimination that Hiroka denounces as unjust.

Enraged, Ray confronts Kerry, accusing her of scheming for a promotion at her expense. Her words turn into curses as she storms away. Meanwhile, Clive presents her with the missing photographs, revealing Frank among them, though the identities of the girls remain a mystery. Suzie scrutinizes photos of DI Rachita Ray, while Lucy (Tamla Kari) probes if she anticipated assuming a new role should anything untoward befall Dave. Suzie assures her of their readiness to handle any consequences, starting with a thorough cleanup.

In a moment of solitude, Suzie frantically searches for a gun, her actions interrupted by her daughter's inquisitive voice. She stumbles upon a bracelet, smeared with blood, prompting further alarm. Elsewhere, Liam Payne (Sam Baker-Jones) and Charlene Ellis (Witney White) track Amara's car, noting its visits to Granger Lane—home to Mochani's jewelry shop.

Rachita enters the room, learning that her vehicle is headed to Greenhills Hospital, a specialized NHS facility. Liam's observation of a parking ticket in Rav's name at the hospital piques Ray's interest, leading her to plan a meeting with Kwesi there. However, her plans change upon discovering Amara has already departed, redirecting her to the Council Chambers. Amidst this, Ray is physically confronted, warned to cease her investigations into the murders. The encounter haunts her thoughts, a source of unease.

DS Kwesi Edmund (Peter Bankole) offers a reassuring check-in before they confront Amara. Ray poses the question, probing if she has ever interacted with the Chapman or Mochani families regarding any matter. Amara admits to visiting the jewelry shop to offer condolences, her claim that they had the place privately for the day met with Kwesi's skepticism.

Later in the evening, Ray convenes with Holden over dinner, where she unravels the tale of her recent encounter. Rachita confides that she has kept silent about the incident to her team, considering that one member had previously accused her of recklessness, lodging a formal complaint. She delves into the chat logs she uncovered on Clive's phone, emphasizing that the individual behind the mysterious number was particularly troublesome. As Liam's call interrupts, Ray excuses herself hurriedly.

Heading to the precinct, she overhears Amara in conversation with Priya. Eavesdropping, she catches Priya reminding Amara of her agreement with Rav, while steadfastly denying Rav's involvement. They hint at a girl being at the heart of the matter. Clive's abrupt intervention draws their attention as he reveals that Lou Kirkby has agreed to a meeting. Subsequently, Kwesi is tasked with visiting Suzie to gather information about the bailiff contract.

Later that night, Liam expresses concern about DI Ray's wellbeing to Charlene, who invites him out for a drink in an attempt to lighten the mood. As night falls, a woman approaches Rachita, mistaking her for her dentist. Meanwhile, Ray senses she is being trailed by a masked figure, casting an eerie shadow over her steps.

The following day, Rachita learns that Amara is headed back to the hospital. Inside, Amara confides in Jasmin about being compelled to do something she deeply dreads, her voice breaking into tears. Liam returns with the medical test results Ray had ordered for Sajna, all of which came back negative. They discuss the hospital's expertise spanning obstetrics, nephrology, orthopedics, and beyond. Ray's suspicions fall heavily on Jasmin as the ailing child, prompting her to confront Amara. Amara responds defiantly, explaining that after three long years of waiting for a kidney, she refuses to delay any longer. Ray promptly arrests Amara on suspicion of conspiring to traffic a child for organ harvesting.

Priya offers solace to her mother, Sharan (Syreeta Kumar), who grimly informs her that a conviction for trafficking could land Amara in prison for six years. Sharan laments that the outcome might have been different had Priya confided in her sooner, acknowledging her own past foolishness with a tinge of self-deprecation.

Suzie is engrossed in the flames, methodically burning papers and miscellaneous items when Kwesi arrives, intent on discussing family business affairs and more. Suzie reveals that she has granted everyone a fortnight's leave, intending to conduct a thorough inventory, explaining that her father had neglected the crucial task of bookkeeping. When Kwesi inquiries about the bailiff contract and Frank's need to reapply, Suzie expresses uncertainty about its relevance now that Rav and the others are deceased. Kwesi corrects her, reminding her that Sharan is still alive and that the contract is worth over three million pounds annually. Suzie dismisses the notion of money holding the same allure for her as it once did for Frank and Dave.

Kwesi steps outside and notices the remnants of the burned items, prompting him to suggest obtaining a search warrant for the rest of the contents and also for Pawn Haven. Meanwhile, Clive sits in a pub, glancing at his phone before deciding to call Sam, who fails to answer. He orders a drink, lost in thought.

Elsewhere, Charlene uncovers a fragment of a gun during their search and promptly informs DI Ray, specifying that it belongs to a Taurus model. Meanwhile, Rachita is taken aback to find Clive standing outside her door. Upon entering, Clive seeks clarification about the situation, and Rachita fills him in on the Midland Chiefs group. Clive reminds her that he had no part in it; he was added without his consent. He emphasizes the difficulty of exiting such a group and reveals that Sam was equally perplexed and had expelled him for it. Clive had reported the group to Beardsmore, who, he suspects, might be one of them. With Beardsmore watching him closely, Clive feels helpless in seeking external assistance. However, Rachita vows to take them down, and Clive pledges his support.
