In the opening scene of Euphoria season 3, episode 1, we're transported to the future, set in the bustling city of Chihuahua. Rue, our protagonist, has taken a turn for the worse since high school, finding herself stuck in Mexico, ferrying drugs across the border into California to pay off her debts. The journey takes her through Texas and onto a farm, where she donns the alias of Ruby and pretends to be a college reporter. The family there are God-fearing and kind-hearted, with their oldest daughter, Daisy, offering Rue a lift to the bus depot. Eventually, she arrives in California, where the real story unfolds.

Fast forward a few years, and Rue is working at a smoke shop when she's approached by Laurie. Rue owes Laurie a considerable amount of money from the suitcase and pill fiasco in season 2. The initial debt was 10k, but with a 20% monthly interest rate and time passing, it's now ballooned to around $43 million. With no other choice, Rue becomes a drug mule to pay Laurie off, who agrees to settle for "only" 100k.
The process of ferrying drugs involves swallowing ballooned baggies full of drugs and forcing them down her throat. This is known as body packing, and the dangers are very real. If a balloon breaks inside her, she's likely to die. But Rue isn't alone in this dangerous endeavor; she brings Faye onboard to help her. It's not a pretty sight, but this is how fent is smuggled into the US.
After Fezco's house was raided last season, resulting in Ash's death, Laurie went into business with her cousin Harley and his son Wayne. It's a tight-knit operation, and over the span of two years, Rue has done over a dozen runs and become the number one mule. The scene is both gripping and heartbreaking as we watch Rue navigate her way through this dangerous world, all while trying to pay off her debts and find a way out.
In between errands, Rue also finds solace in driving for Uber, earning extra cash. Despite the chaos, Lexi occasionally allows Rue to crash on her couch, but this time, Lexi gives her a lecture on how Christians can be judgmental. However, Rue is unfazed and turns to Ali for guidance, seeking comfort in the bible's words. Her quest for happiness drives her to interpret every scripture as absolute truth. With ample time on the road as a Mule and Uber driver, Rue dives into audiobooks, immersing herself in the sacred texts.
Meanwhile, Lexi has grown distant from Fezco since the raid that sent him to prison for 30 years. She's now part of Hollywood's creative scene, while Fezco is locked up far from her life.
Cassie, on the other hand, has embraced a traditional suburban lifestyle but yearns to become a TikTok sensation using her body. She dons a dog costume and creates content with their housekeeper Juana as her videographer. However, Nate isn't pleased. He accuses Cassie of being a prostitute and complains that she's playing dress-up while he's out working in the real world.
Nate is ascending the ladder of success, proudly declaring that he has more than enough funds for his aspirations. At least, that's what he tells himself. He's taken over his father's business, but the challenges in Southern California are formidable. It's no easy feat, and with Cassie's insatiable desire for a lavish wedding, there's a lot going on.
Cassie is eager to expand her horizons and start selling content on OnlyFans to eager men. She's confident it will work, but how Nate will react is another matter entirely. Meanwhile, Maddy is currently working in management, representing influencers and a few actors, including Dylan Reid. Dylan is the heartthrob of a show called "LA Nights," and he takes a shine to Lexi.
As for Rue, she's summoned to meet with Laurie. There's a big buyer named Alamo Brown, and Rue needs to drop off a package to him. When she asks to use the bathroom, she heads up the stairs and becomes enamored by the numerous gorgeous ladies there. She decides to join in and dance with them. That's a mistake, as Rue is confronted by Alamo, who calls her disrespectful. However, the two seem to hit it off quite well, with Alamo admitting that he's in the business of cashing in on girls.
Alamo owns and runs five of the dirtiest strip clubs in California. Rue wants to get involved and be hired by him to work in the club. He seems to be okay with it, but there's still Bishop, Alamo's right-hand man, to contend with. He's less than thrilled about the idea.
That night, Cassie brings up the idea of OnlyFans with Nate. He immediately assumes it's porn and doesn't want her selling her body. But Cassie is not having that, and she tells Nate matter-of-factly that she doesn't want a "ghetto" wedding. Eventually, she convinces him to let her pursue this venture.
Meanwhile, one of the girls at Alamo's, Tish, ends up overdosing. It turns out the drugs Rue brought over were laced with fent. Alamo immediately goes after Rue, questioning what she's been up to. Rue tries to talk herself out of trouble, explaining what she's been doing and wanting to help him. Alamo decides to put her faith in God to the test, taking her outside and putting a green apple on her head. He shoots the apple and not Rue, who breathes a sigh of relief.
