Florida Man – Season 1 Episode 5

Published: Jun 26 2024

In episode 5, we witness Florida Man peeling away the layers of Delly's past. On the sombre day of her father, Arthur West's funeral, a devastating truth surfaces. Arthur, a man of legal business on the surface, had a shady side. He had been laundering money, skimming off clients' funds, including Bogdan Yankov, Moss's father. Adding insult to injury, Delly's mother suggests that Arthur's suicide was, in fact, a murder, orchestrated by Bogdan after a confrontation in a hotel stairwell. Enraged, Delly sets out for vengeance, armed with a gun and headed for Bogdan's residence. Shockingly, she arrives at Bogdan's funeral, where her path crosses with Moss for the first time.

Did their encounter mark the beginning of a relationship crafted solely for revenge? The suspicion looms large. Meanwhile, Moss rushes to Florida as Dutch remains unreachable. Despite the public scrutiny, the team presses ahead with their salvage plans. Moss spots the car he once gifted to Delly and claims it as his own. Iris descends into Sonny's bar, engaging Delly in conversation. Unfazed by Iris's mention of Delly's death in Philly, Delly senses Iris is probing for something deeper.

Iris's curiosity seems more focused on Gil Franco's demise. She offers Delly sage advice: if Mike is in her life, his addictions are too. She advises Delly to either flee before the tide turns or stay and hope the slots keep paying off. In a bid for freedom, Delly agrees to trade the crucial USB. However, while tidying the room, Clara stumbles upon it. Moss brutally interrogates Benny to extract information on Mike. Patsy struggles to convince Angela, Jason's mother, to release him.

As Angela relents, Clara patches up Benny, who acknowledges he should have heeded Clara's warnings about Mike Valentine's troubled nature. Clara alerts Mike of Moss's increasing turmoil. Suddenly, Jason exhales, just as Tyler listens to the police scanner and a mother lays her son down. The doctor decides to observe Jason for three more days, but Patsy's anxiety mounts. Unwittingly, Mike and Sonny are invited to an Al-Anon meeting, as they narrowly evade being caught with salvage equipment in the church.

Mike confronts the grim reality of his mother's passing, a suicide fueled by Sonny's gun. From that fateful day, Sonny turned his back on the woman he once knew, leaving Mike with a profound sense of loss and anger. Sonny, overcome with emotion, confesses that his mother's cancer had caused her unbearable pain, robbing her of any reason to continue living. It was then that he made the difficult choice to leave the gun accessible, a decision that weighs heavily on him every day.

Unexpectedly, Mike returns home early from practice, a deviation from his usual routine. His hatred for Sonny consumes him, a hatred so deep it overshadows everything else. Sonny attempts to reason with him, explaining that their choices in the past were shaped by who they were then, but it's time to move forward.

Meanwhile, Patsy tries desperately to reach Mike regarding Jason, but her calls are unanswered. Delly arrives at the sinkhole site unaware that Iris has planted a listening device in her purse, eavesdropping on her every word. As Delly mentions the "gold money," Iris listens intently.

Mike meets Iris and deceives her about his true reason for being there, leaving Iris feeling betrayed. Clara finally reveals the truth about Moss to Mike, and although Delly cannot find the USB, the familiar scent of Vicks from the neighboring rooms causes her to recoil in shock. She recognizes that scent, a reminder of her time with Moss after Bogdan's death.

A flashback reveals how Delly corroborated a story using a bill from the day Arthur was murdered. In reality, it was Missy who took Arthur's life. As the episode draws to a close, Patsy decides to silence Jason once and for all, while Moss sneaks into Mike's room and catches a glimpse of Delly.
