Frank, imprisoned in an office with Boyd, hears Boyd reassure him that whatever transpires that night, he shouldn't take it personally. Doubting Donna's tales of the town, Jade assumes it's all a prank and ventures out to explore. Ethan continues to glimpse the ghostly boy in white, lingering outside. Victor spends his time counting footsteps from his house to the woods, seeking answers.
Father Khatri arrives to guide the Matthews through the town, as they must decide whether to settle in the town proper or at the Colony House. Kevin tries to convince Sara to stay home, but she insists on working at the diner, claiming she needs the help. Khatri conducts the Matthews through the town, imparting knowledge about the talisman and explaining that the box serves as a means of punishment. Those whose actions or negligence lead to the death of another are locked within the box overnight. He informs them that tonight marks the first time the box will be used.
Khatri introduces them to Frank and Lauren's former abode, where they would reside. Frank and Boyd wander through the woods, as Frank desires to visit Meagan's beloved spot before his fateful night in the box. Jade engages in conversation with Kenny, still disbelieving the reality of their situation. He thinks it's all part of a game. Ethan inquiries about the boy in white, and Victor reveals he's counting steps to ascertain if the trees have shifted.
Boyd discusses Frank's fate with Khatri, voicing his reluctance for Frank's imprisonment, but Khatri insists he must abide by the rules.
Boyd persuades Frank to take up the amulet and try to build a new life in the woods, but Frank believes he should suffer the punishment and enjoy the box. During the selection ceremony, Jade, Tabitha, Jim and Ethan chose to live in the woods, while Julie preferred the colonial home.
Afterward, Kenny reveals Toby's lifeless body to Jade, shocking him to the core. Frank enters the box, and the creatures descend upon him with vicious attacks.
