The second episode of FUBAR's second season kicks off with Luke's jaw dropping in disbelief as Greta, an East German spy presumed deceased since 1989, reappears alive and kicking. Chips, who turns out to be in Greta's employ, has a sniper scoped in on Emma, compelling Luke to reluctantly accompany Greta into her bedroom – alone. With their earpiece missing and communication lines cut, the duo engages in a delicate dance, figuratively and literally, tiptoeing around their shared history.
Greta, far from finished with her objectives, manages a daring escape facilitated by an accommodating helicopter. Just before she takes off, she leaves behind an old pipe, which doubles as a two-way communication device – a relic from their 1980s escapades. Through this, she warns Luke and the gang off her trail.
Meanwhile, downstairs, a comedic exchange unfolds as the love-struck Chips attempts to woo Emma with a hidden earpiece and a rendition of his tunes, cleverly passing Garfield off as his intellectual property.
Across the globe in Kolkata, Tina and Aldon arrive to confront Bashir. Dante had sought Bashir's expertise years ago, but a malfunction in one of Bashir's spring traps led to a tragic necessity – the sacrifice of one of his own children. Now, Tina and Aldon are back, intending to silence Bashir before he spills any secrets about Dante's plans.
However, Tina beats them to the punch, shooting Bashir dead (though the graphic scene occurs off-screen), and framing it as protective action against one of Dante's henchmen, leaving Aldon in the dark.
Back at the safehouse, Tally is less than thrilled about Greta's return. While she fumes over the past liaisons and "extracurricular activities," Barry proposes they recruit Todd Demps, a former lance corporal who orchestrated the Northeastern blackout in 2003. Though he served 12 years behind bars, he's been off the grid ever since. Barry believes he's the perfect pawn for Dante Cress to manipulate into his sinister scheme.
When it comes to laying out plans, Tina expertly dispatches critical information about Dante's bank accounts to Barry and the team, subsequently reaching out to her Russian contacts to keep them abreast of the CIA's latest maneuvers. Thanks in part to Doc P's sharp insights, revealing Demps' battle with Gaucher disease and his resultant need for proximity to a pharmacy, the group successfully traces Demps' whereabouts by cross-referencing this clue with the locations of nearby power plants.
However, the mission takes a perilous turn when Roo inadvertently steps on a landmine outdoors, compelling Emma to stay behind and attempt to assist her. In this tense moment, Emma broaches the possibility of Roo ascending to the position of Regional Director, voicing her doubts about the wisdom of such a move. She believes Roo's unruly nature and lack of discipline could spell discord within the team, leading to friction between them.
Meanwhile, Luke and Aldon persist in their pursuit of Todd Demps, eventually flushing him out. But just as they close in, soldiers appear and open fire on the house. To everyone's surprise, Demps emerges as an innocent figure who deliberately caused the blackout to highlight the U.S.'s vulnerability to such attacks. His warnings fell on deaf ears, eventually leading him into isolation. Demps possesses a comprehensive report detailing potential targets, but he was dismissed as crazy by all.
With a landmine attached to Roo's foot, the two women dash towards Demps' house, only to encounter Chips waiting outside. Emma decides to venture out alone to buy them some precious time, but her plan backfires as Chips seizes the opportunity to abduct Demps.
Chaos ensues as Aldon, Roo, and Emma engage in a fierce battle with the goons. But fate intervenes in the form of another landmine, which detonates and flips the car over. Tragically, Demps loses his life in the explosion, while Chips miraculously survives. Even more crucially, he happens to be in possession of a vital segment of Demps' research.
Chips communicates with Greta, revealing that four power plants, when shut down, have the potential to create an overload that the grid cannot manage. This constitutes only half of the research, with the remaining two plants' details in Luke's hands. The stakes have never been higher, setting the scene for an intense climax.
