Furies – Season 1 Episode 5

Published: May 31 2024

Episode 5 of Furies kicks off with a stark promise - justice is not the Fury's game, punishment is. In the underworld, the sole law that reigns is the law of vengeance. Imprisonment is reserved for the weak, and that's precisely where Selma has banished her brother - and Lyna's father - for the meantime.

Presently, Lyna appears to visit her incarcerated dad, Driss. Initially, the atmosphere is tense and awkward, but gradually, they settle into a comfortable groove. There's much catching up to do, and what better place to start than seven days ago?

We flashback to see Elie being hauled away in handcuffs and thrown into the depths of prison. Of course, a police officer behind bars is far from a death sentence, and the inmates quickly swarm him, raining blows upon his defenseless body.

Furies – Season 1 Episode 5 1

Keita intervenes, sending over a couple of grisly pictures of the battered Elie, demanding Lyna to play ball. Instead, Lyna decides to fight fire with fire and marches up to Keita's house, charming Keita's brother Thomas with her wit and charm.

This is enough to sway Keita's hand, and Lyna demands that Elie be freed from prison and acquitted of all charges, leaving him innocent. Her ploy works, especially with her brother's life hanging in the balance. When Driss quizzes her in prison about whether she'd really go through with killing him, Lyna's smile fades, and she insists that it's not like that at all.

Despite securing Elie's freedom, he's aware that Lyna has been with Orso and confronts her about it. Lyna confesses her folly but professes her undying love for him and her desire to be with him. Elie agrees but insists that there must be no more lies between them. She rushes forward and throws her arms around him in a tender embrace.

Four days prior, Lyna and Elie were living the high life, seemingly back on track. Unfortunately, a work call interrupts their bliss, and while perusing files, Lyna catches a glimpse of where her father is being held captive - hence her urgent visit now. Besides keeping this a secret, she's also juggling her relationships with Elie and Orso (unaware of his demise), a dangerous game that's bound to end in disaster.

Fast-forwarding two days, Elie notices details of Lyna's father on her laptop. Worried that she's keeping secrets from him, he decides to hold some secrets of his own and orders a ballistic report on the bullet he found in Lyna's mother's room. Meanwhile, Lyna receives a chilling message from Orso's phone, revealing that Parques has buried her beloved in a grave six feet deep, leaving her heartbroken and enraged.

Lyna, understandably shaken, struggled to maintain her focus, consumed by the paranoid belief that everyone was plotting against her, seeking to assassinate her. It didn't take long for the coffee shop to erupt into a chaotic gunfight, but Lyna, displaying remarkable prowess, managed to eliminate all three assailants before they could harm her.

Unfortunately, the danger was far from over, and a larger conflict soon broke out. Amidst the chaos, Selma emerged as Lyna's unlikely ally. When Lyna queried her motives, Selma confessed with a mischievous grin that "things would be far less exciting without her."

As Lyna recounted her tale to Driss in prison, his mood darkened. He wasn't pleased to learn of Selma's involvement and sternly warned Lyna to be cautious and heed his advice over Selma's. It was during this conversation that Lyna revealed more about her upbringing.

It turned out that the Guerrabs, the family who had taken her under their wing, had been killed in a tragic turn of events. They had panicked, seeking a different future for Lyna, and embarked on a dangerous scheme to embezzle money from the Godfathers and steal the Bible of the Six for protection. However, their plan was betrayed, and Selma had been the one to carry out the fatal strike.

This revelation shook Lyna to her core, especially when Driss discovered that Selma possessed crucial information about the unmarked truck linked to Fehim's van. It seemed that Selma was keeping even more secrets, hinted at by her mysterious clinic visits, but she refused to divulge any further details.

However, Lyna had more pressing matters to attend to that evening. As she arrived at Elie's apartment, he confronted her about the secrets she was keeping. The confrontation ended with Elie handcuffed and Lyna fleeing the scene.

But while sitting in prison, a nagging sense of unease plagued Lyna. Something about the situation seemed too perfect, staged. And soon, the truth was revealed. It turned out that Driss had been the one to eliminate Darius and had been working against The Fury, who was not the crook after all.

As Driss left the prison, walking out on his own accord, Lyna was left vulnerable, surrounded by a group of men intent on capturing her. But Lyna, displaying her resilient spirit, fought back, managing to fend off all her attackers.

Desperate to find Selma before it was too late, Lyna hurried out of the prison. However, the scene shifted to an unmarked grave where Orso awoke and emerged. Parques was there to greet him, keeping him chained like a dog. The stage was now set for an uncertain future, filled with danger and intrigue.
