The fifth episode of "Gangs of Galicia" kicks off with Padin being ambushed by an astute journalist who cunningly maneuvers him into granting an interview. During this encounter, Padin launches a scathing attack on the police. Daniel, watching the interview in fury, urges Nazario to intervene with his father, stressing that now is hardly the time to draw unnecessary attention.
Elsewhere, Nilo's hopes are dashed when he discovers Marco and Maria's plan to flee with the man in question. Determined to join them, he decides to bring the money along to Marco's father. As fate would have it, Daniel calls him to caution about the lurking journalists, but Nilo is preoccupied venting about his nephew. Daniel persuades him not to betray Marco and instead brings him around to the idea of escorting the teenagers to his house, vowing to set them on the right path.
Meanwhile, Naranjo attempts to engage Clara and Samuel in conversation, but they brusquely dismiss him. Samuel, plunged into a state of melancholy and silence, has his wife hoping his discharge from whatever ails him will revive his spirits. However, she insists that Naranjo stay away.
Ana, torn between duty and temptation, nearly skips a meeting with a client as she ponders meeting Naranjo and handing over her entire dossier on Daniel and Padin. At the last minute, she changes her mind and rushes back to the office.
There, she and Rosa decide to grab some lunch, unwittingly choosing the very restaurant where Nazario, Tono, and other members of Daniel's circle are dining. Over lunch, Rosa confesses to being coerced by Naranjo into bugging Ana's office. Just as they delve deeper into the subject, Samuel bursts in, armed with a shotgun.
Nazario, engrossed in a phone conversation with Padin, spots Samuel first. He dashes out, attempting to alert Tono, who is conveniently occupied attending to some "business" in the restroom and ignores his calls.
Samuel initiates his attack by targeting Daniel's men before sweeping through the restaurant, ultimately discharging his firearm at the toilet where Tono is hit. Afterward, he exits hastily, prompting Tono to implore Ana to call and alert Daniel. Unfortunately, Daniel is engaged in another conversation as he drives towards his home to convene with Marco, Maria, and Nilo. Ana, realizing the proximity of the house, decides to sprint there instead of dialing, yet arrives too late to prevent the tragedy. Upon her arrival, she discovers Maria and Daniel lying wounded, with Samuel's bullets depleted and him departing the scene. Ana swiftly attends to Daniel, but the gravity of Maria's wounds leads to her instant demise.
Later, Naranjo collects statements from all involved and singles out Nilo for the occurrence. Ana converses with Marco, urging him to mislead about the money's origin. Yet, Marco is exhausted and enraged, refusing Daniel's assistance and casting blame on everyone, including himself, for Maria's fate. Even Naranjo shoulders the guilt for fabricating evidence against Samuel and punching him excessively. His subordinate shares the same remorse but refrains from reporting Naranjo, instead vowing to resign once the Padins are apprehended and recommending Ana for a promotion.
After Maria's burial, Ana visits Daniel at the hospital, where he asks her a favor, sensing her burgeoning affection for him, evident in her tender care before the ambulance's arrival. Daniel reveals that Padin orchestrated the plan to punish Samuel. He expresses his desire to distance himself from his father but needs Ana's help for a crucial task.
He asks her to embark on a journey to meet Padin. The elder man is deeply paranoid, instructing her to undress before divulging the next step. He orders her to memorize a set of coordinates and provides her with a plane ticket to Dakar to meet an anonymous individual, entrusting her with these coordinates.
In Dakar, Ana hesitates to complete the mission upon noticing a suspicious man trailing her. To her surprise, Padin had hired this man to protect and monitor her. Upon discovering this truth, Ana meets Sandro, whose paranoia surpasses hers. Ana reassures him that Padin is behind the hiring of men to keep tabs on them. She hands over the coordinates and promptly leaves the country.
Returning to Cambados, Daniel is discharged and proceeds to Berta's restaurant to apologize. Berta delivers a stern lecture, reminding him that he had a choice after his mother's demise. She is disappointed that he chose to be his father's compliant son rather than carving an honest living.
Meanwhile, Laura receives Maria's letter, penned during her plans to elope with Marco. Coincidentally encountering Marco at the mausoleum, they conspire to dismantle the Padins' operations. Subsequently, Laura meets with Naranjo, informing him of her insider within Padin's team.
