Episode 4 of Season 2 of "Gannibal" commences with Kyosuke frantically dialing Utada for assistance while concealing himself alongside Ai. Utada's arrival is met with chaos as the Goto assassin unleashes a reign of terror. In a desperate move, Kyosuke hurls acid at the assassin's face, granting Utada the opportunity to incapacitate him.
Inside the tunnel, Keisuke and Daigo initiate the hostage exchange, but Iwao's abrupt curiosity about Yosuke's capture disrupts the tense calm. Daigo tries to silence him, but Yosuke reveals his deep-seated disgust for the Goto ideology. Horrified to learn that Keisuke was responsible for their father's death, he lambasts his brother for being brainwashed. Meanwhile, Makato, indifferent to Yosuke's fate, attempts to murder Mashiro and Yuki. Keisuke intervenes, earning his wrath. Makato turns on Keisuke, only to be swiftly killed by Iwao.
Iwao subsequently turns his aggression towards Daigo, who tries to eliminate the remaining Goto members. After a fierce struggle, Daigo shoots Iwao in the head. To everyone's astonishment, Iwao rises again, prompting Daigo to knock him unconscious.
Daigo finds himself puzzled by Keisuke's erratic behavior, mirroring Keisuke's own confusion. Their standoff is abruptly shattered by the arrival of That Man, who stomps over Daigo without hesitation. Keisuke stands guardian-like before the Agawa women, but That Man ignores him, moving past unimpeded. Yuki attempts to halt him, but her pleas fall on deaf ears as he merely addresses her as "mom" and dashes away with Mashiro. Yuki places the blame squarely on Daigo, commanding him to retrieve Mashiro. Weakened and in agony, Daigo limps after That Man. Meanwhile, Keisuke discovers an unconscious Daigo, haunted by a hallucination of Gin urging him to slay the cop.
Elsewhere, Utada imparts to Ai that she holds the key to halting the festival. They must journey to Kuge, but Kyosuke trembles, haunted by memories of That Man. Ai vows to return and urges him to stay put. En route, Utada enlightens Ai about That Man—an entity revered as Arahito, a deity incarnate among the Kuge faithful. However, Ai clings to the belief that beneath That Man's guise lies the soul of a child.
Ryuji and his gang arrive at the dimly lit tunnel, their minds racing with the belief that Daigo had betrayed them by murdering Makato and Iwao, and abducting their brothers. However, Sadamu shatters this notion by revealing Yosuke's treacherous actions. Just when despair seems to envelop them, Iwao miraculously stirs from his slumber, leaving everyone puzzled and relieved.
Elsewhere, Yosuke and Keisuke, burdened with the injured Daigo and an anxious Yuki, seek refuge with Munechika, a skilled practitioner of the healing arts. Yosuke's frustration boils over as he reprimands Keisuke for shouldering the burden alone, unaware of Keisuke's stead fast resolve to shield him from the darkness. A haunting flashback unveils Keisuke's youthful despair, marked by a failed suicide attempt after his first charge fell prey to That Man, leaving an indelible scar across his forehead. With resolve hardened by tragedy, Keisuke insists on confronting the Gotos alone, urging Yosuke to secure Yuki's safety in a hospital. Amidst the chaos, Yosuke lays blame at Daigo's feet, convinced that his hasty decisions led to their plight.
In a nearby village, Nishimura narrates the gunfight's harrowing details to a captivated audience. The revelation that Kuge harbors an undying hatred for the Gotos, finally recognizing them as legitimate targets for retribution, stirs a jubilant desire for vengeance among the villagers, particularly for Sabu's death. Yet, amidst the collective exhilaration, Jin remains engrossed in contemplation, a solitary figure amidst the crowd's euphoria.
At the police station, officers of the Morobe precinct worry for Kanemaru and Daigo's wellbeing. However, their concerns are overshadowed by a directive from headquarters, seizing the Kuge case from Chief Tanaka's hands. The new strategy unfolds: deploying multiple SAT teams armed to the teeth, intent not on arrest but on eradication. Their mission: to obliterate the Goto family and avenge fallen comrades. Just as the operation is poised to commence, Ai enters the scene, offering her assistance on one condition – sparing Keisuke and Yosuke.
Deep within the woods, Keisuke stumbles upon Yosuke's abandoned rifle, a discovery that triggers a nostalgic flashback. In a tender yet poignant memory, a younger Keisuke, initially reluctant, teaches a crying Baby Yosuke the basics of rifle marksmanship, the bond between them unspoken yet profound. Gin, an ever-watching presence, introduces Keisuke to That Man, a moment that scars him deeply. Forced to participate in a grotesque ritual, Keisuke gags as Gin compels him to feed That Man, who addresses Gin as 'mom.' Gin's chilling revelation confirms their grim duty: to protect That Man at any cost.
Currently, Daigo finds himself pondering the motive behind Keisuke's assistance. Keisuke, resolute in his refusal to further endanger any children, uncovers the astonishing truth that Mashiro remains alive, her fate tied to the festival's commencement, at which point "That Man" intends to consume her. However, this revelation falls short of satisfying Daigo's fiery desire for comprehensive answers.
As Gannibal Season 2 Episode 4 draws to a close, Old Kamiyama interrupts the narrative, shedding light on the distorted perception of Arahito that has persisted through the decades. Initially, "That Man" was not a deity incarnate nor a revered symbol; he was but a solitary individual. Seventy years prior, the Gotos exercised oppressive control over the village populace, while Gin, not yet transformed into a deranged cult leader, harbored ambitions to liberate them. Her beauty, in its prime, held a mesmerizing power capable of driving men to distraction.
