In the fifth episode of Gen V Season 2, we find ourselves one month before the present day, where Cipher is meticulously cleaning up the decomposing body of a man he keeps in his hyperbaric chamber. Sister Sage arrives and, with a playful insult, slaps Cipher. To her surprise, this seems to excite the man. The two proceed to engage in a steamy encounter, with the man watching intently.
The scene shifts to the present day, where Jordan is visibly agitated with Marie for giving in to Cipher's sinister plans. Cipher arrives and tells Marie how her power is magnified under pressure, but she refuses to cave in. Jordan stands up for Marie, but Cipher remains unyielding. He reveals that Cate has been sent to Elmira for conspiring against him.
We witness Cate's admission into Elmira, where she attempts to escape by manipulating the guards. Marie, on the other hand, is subdued and locked away in a cell. Meanwhile, Sam visits his family after his conversation with Jordan. His parents are taken aback by his sudden appearance but welcome him with open arms.
That night, Marie urges Emma and Jordan to save Cate from Elmira. She reminds them of their own experience in Elmira and asks for their help. Despite Jordan's initial reluctance due to his lingering disapproval of Marie, he eventually agrees to join her in rescuing Cate. The trio devises a plan and enlist Sam's assistance.
Emma calls Sam and extends an invitation, but he declines, stating that Cate is a harmful individual who has caused them much harm. Marie, Emma, and Jordan set off for Elmira. Greg meets Emma and asks her to contact Polarity if she doesn't return in two days. She bids him a tearful farewell, hoping for a swift return.
Meanwhile, Polarity delves deeper into Cipher's powers and his obsession with Marie. Cipher shares his years of studying Supes and his admiration for Marie's potential to change the world. Polarity inquires about Andre's fate, but Cipher teases the father about his son's demise, further fueling the tension in the air.
As Polarity nears his assault on Cipher, the latter intercedes, turning the tables with a chilling threat that leaves Polarity reeling. Sam's home becomes a stage for a heart-wrenching revelation as his father discloses the betrayal by Vought, who refused to allow them to see Sam in his time of need. Sam's emotions spiral out of control as he witnesses his mother on a call, fueling his anger towards the decisions made for him—sending him to God U and administering Compound V as an infant. The strain of these revelations leads to a physical confrontation between Sam and his father, prompting his mother to ask him to leave.
At Elmira, Emma, Marie, and Jordan find themselves immediately snatched as hostages and locked away in individual cells. Emma's solace is found in her cell, where she meets Cate and shares their attempts to escape their predicament. Meanwhile, Sister Sage pays a visit to Cipher at God U, where they discuss Marie's powers and their aspirations for fulfilling their dreams.
Polarity's search for Marie, Emma, and Jordan becomes a fruitless endeavor, culminating in a seizure that wreaks havoc on his home, sending metal objects tumbling out of control as he loses consciousness. Sam's conversation with his mother unveils a family history of genetic mental illnesses, with her explaining her desire to cure him and administering Compound V in an effort to improve his mental health.
In the aftermath, Sam forgives his mother and resolves to make a positive change in his life. At Elmira, Emma struggles to transform into Little Cricket to escape, while Cate battles against her shackles. Marie attempts to harness her blood but is thwarted by an injection administered by the guards. Cipher's arrival adds another layer of threat, compelling Marie to submit to him due to her immense power. Jordan begs Cipher to reveal the truth behind Project Odessa, but Cipher dismisses them with insults, claiming that they were too weak for him to take over.
Marie defiantly countered Cipher's assertion that he had not enjoyed controlling Jordan, asserting instead that he had been in agony during that time. Cipher's temper flared, and he led Marie to meet Annabeth, his sister. Marie was then led back to her chamber, where she vowed to Cipher that she would end his life to save her sister.
Emma and Cate managed to evade the guards and left their respective units together. With Cate's powers at their disposal, the four of them joined forces to help Marie and Jordan. As they prepared to leave, Jordan expressed concerns that this might be a trap set by Vought and Cipher. Marie resolutely refused to leave without her sister, and they set out in search of her.
To their horror, Marie and her friends discovered Annabeth with her throat slit. Marie was overcome with grief and rage, and she unleashed all her might to resurrect Annabeth from the dead, as the episode drew to a dramatic conclusion.
